BBC Three Could Cut Family Guy, As BBC Attempts Cost Cutting Measures

In what make come as a shocking measure, it seems that UK Channel BBC Three will be moving online potentially. This is a cost saving measure to help save BBC around 100 million Euros. The real issue is not the cost cutting move, rather, the potential loss of the popular TV Show, Family Guy that airs on the network.

Family Guy is a popular adult cartoon show invented by comedian Seth MacFarlane and is considered a cult classic. Some shows have been branched off of it such as “The Cleveland Show” and “American Dad”. While Cleveland’s show was cancelled totally across the board, American Dad is a very popular show still. At least Cleveland moved back to Family Guy give us more hilarity.

It seems that Seth could do no wrong with his television power known as Family Guy, until the death of the family dog, Brian. This ended up being a storyline shift that people just had to wait and see about, but a lot of negatively was thrown out online. Some wonder how long the show will last and if Seth is just messing with fans now to see what they will do. No matter what he does however, ratings seem to stay steady.

Family Guy has been cancelled a number of times but it’s popularity kept bringing it back to television. It’s a ratings booster, and FOX realizes that. This is why it’s doubtful they will ever cancel again unless ratings suffer, meanwhile it seems that the UK Channel BBC Three may be forced to cut the show from television, moving it online with BBC Three’s potential move.

Fans do not want it to move to the online format that BBC Three may be forced to go toward. While it is a brilliant cost-cutting move and it would end up potentially making them more money by having the network move to an online format, Family Guy moving online wouldn’t be beloved by fans.

This is why a Twitter hashtag “#SaveBBC3” is now trending. Fans would rather the network stay around totally just for the two popular adult cartoons than to cut it the network totally. It’s hilarious, because it shows the power of the Family Guy fan base. It also shows, however, that BBC has a way to increase revenue.

Keep in mind, the network has to have a license to broadcast online if they decide to move shows like Family Guy and American Dad to the online network. If they do not have them, obviously the two shows would be cut, angering fans immensely and losing a lot of already pissed off BBC Three viewers.

There are multiple concepts regarding the idea of an online move. BBC could move Family Guy and American Dad to BBC One or BBC Two. If they did so, obviously that would solve their biggest issue with viewers. BBC Three could survive online, saving the millions of euros needed. Meanwhile, fans are happy because they do not see two of their favorite shows leaving television.

This is not an easy fix however, as contracts would have to change. It’s doubtful executives would cut Family Guy or American Dad totally just because BBC Three is moving online. It would be an awkward circumstance on BBC if they had to tell viewers that they saved millions by cutting the two shows with the network. This is why many believe BBC will come to the conclusion to move the two popular shows to another BBC network.

Again, Family Guy’s popularity along with America Dad’s cannot be disputed. Due to this, BBC would be insane to cut them from television. We shall see what they plan to do however.
