Cheryl Cole is being wooed by Simon Cowell once again, as the music competition show mogul wants the Girls Aloud singer back on the British version of The X-Factor — even though she was fired from the American edition in 2011. Cole, who judged The X-Factor from 2008 to 2010, spurned Cowell's offer to take back her judge's seat in 2011.
But this time, the wiley — and wealthy — Simon Cowell is giving Cheryl Cole 2.5 million reasons to come back.
That, in U.S. dollars, is the reported salary she'll get if she agrees to come back to The X-Factor. Apparently, this time Cowell's offer — £1.5 million in U.K. cash — will be good enough. British media are reporting that Cole is "99 percent" certain to take the X-Factor job.
Before she was fired, Cheryl Cole was all set to collect a $1.8 million paycheck for judging the U.S. X-Factor show in 2011. But Fox Network executives overruled Cowell's hiring, believing that Cole's "Geordie" accent — the regional manner of speech in the English city of Newcastle where Cheryl Cole grew up — would be too difficult for mom and pop America to decipher.
They also felt that Cheryl Cole, while a huge pop star in the U.K., was not well-known in the United States and would not help to draw ratings for the show.
According to reports out of the U.K. though Cheryl Cole is now largely based in Los Angeles, she flew all the way to London from L.A. on February 10, just to meet with Cowell and hear his offer. She immediately flew back to Los Angeles where she was seen the following day.
"Cheryl is serious about rebuilding a relationship with the show," one source told The Daily Mirror. "She wouldn't travel across the Atlantic for the hell of it. She was very keen to hear what Simon's vision is for the new series."
Reportedly, the former wife of Chelsea F.C. footballer Ashley Cole set one condition for her return. She demanded to be the only female judge on the X-Factor panel.
"They're still finalizing the other details but Cheryl made it clear she didn't want to be pitched against another female again," another source confided.
Simon Cowell is said to have agreed to that Cheryl Cole demand, he wants her back that badly.
