Paula Patton, Robin Thicke Separation: What Drove Them Apart

Paula Patton and R&B crooner Robin Thicke may have officially announced their separation to the public on Monday, Feb. 24. However, the news doesn’t come as much of a surprise if the media’s previous speculation is any indication of their marital status.

A number of media outlets have reported that the celebrity couple’s marriage has been on the rocks for quite sometime. According to US Weekly, talks of separation have been floating around as well. “It has been a long time coming,” a insider close to Thicke told the publication. A second source added, “It is not a shock to Robin or Paula, and it is something they have discussed for a long time.”

But, the big question is why?

After nine years of marriage, the more compelling issue is what drove the high school sweethearts-turned-celebrities apart? There are a number of factors that can be accredited for the downward spiral of their marriage. Although Thicke’s salacious, twerk performance with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards definitely didn’t help his situation, there was another incident right after the even that raised eyebrows. Thicke reportedly grabbed some unidentified female fan’s backside right after the show. The woman in the picture even claimed that he was “all over her,” and that he even “kissed her.”

However, that’s just one reported incident involving the “Blurred Lines” singer’s flirtatious nature with females. There has also been a number of claims in reference to extramarital affairs on Thicke’s end. Then, came the incrimination. Pictures of the 38-year-old singer and random females began to circulate around Twitter.

While most of the women could have just been adoring fans taking innocent pictures with the “Lost Without You” singer, a series of incriminating pictures surfaced when Thicke partied at Club 79 in France. He was seen partying all night with one attractive woman in particular.

Although the pictures may have insinuated more than what actually occurred, it definitely didn’t make him look to good. Reports about Thicke’s alleged cheating scandal began surfacing all over the web.

Did Robin Thicke’s cheating drive them apart? Fans will just have to wait and let the story unfold. But, if all of Thicke’s pictures are any indication of his faithfulness to his wife, he may have been definitely stepped out on Patton a time or two.

The Jumping the Broom actress met Thicke over 20 years ago. They’ve dated since the age of 14, and married in 2005. Paula Patton gave birth to the couple’s son, Julian, in 2010.
