CM Punk UFC, MMA Potential: Ronda Rousey Says Dwayne Johnson Is Better?

CM Punk’s UFC potential as a MMA fighter in the octagon as been dissed by Ronda Rousey. Sort of. Or at least she seems to think Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock aka the Green Lantern is the better pick.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, it’s possible CM Punk’s WWE return for WrestleMania 30 is more likely after Vince McMahon hinted there may be more to the story. Even Steven Austin, who is friends with Philip Brooks, flat out (stone cold?) claims Punk will be back:

“Right off the top of my head, he’ll be back. He loves the business but sometimes being a guy on the road you get fed up. It started off as a shoot, it will turn into a work. CM Punk will re-appear for WrestleMania XXX. Mark my words – that’s my prediction.”

Regardless of Punk’s WWE future, Ronda Rousey will probably rile up the wrestling fans with her latest statement. When she was asked about CM Punk vs The Rock she chose her favorite Johnson:

“I have to say The Rock [is my favorite]. I do. I love me some Rock. Sorry, Punk!”

“Blasphemy!” the fans cry. While Dwayne Johnson may have a body like Hercules, and has appeared as a hero in many movies, he doesn’t quite have the same level of technical wrestling skills as Punk. Even before leaving the WWE, Punk was training in MMA with Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Rener Gracie these past four years. While Punk supposedly hasn’t said yet anything to Dana White about joining the UFC (CM Punk’s WWE contract expires in July), his master seems to think he’s ready:

“With the little time he’s had with me spread out over so many years, he’s made remarkable progress. There’s no telling how successful he would be if he devoted himself full time to the training…. He can go get some fights, knock some fools out and choke some dudes. If he dedicates himself full time, there is no limit. He has the intangibles.”

And CM Punk’s UFC potential has current MMA fighters calling him out already. For example, Phil Baroni says there’d be “no better fight” than facing Punk within Bellator MMA. Jason Miller’s challenge was a bit more interesting, with Mayhem saying he’d take on CM Punk in a Dairy Queen parking lot. (I think people would actually pay for PPV to see that.)

So… CM Punk vs Dwayne Johnson, who is better really?
