So-called Craigslist killer Miranda Barbour confessed in an interview to killing dozens of men she met on the site, and now police are working to determine if her claim is true.
The 19-year-old Barbour and her 22-year-old husband, Elytte Barbour, face the death penalty after prosecutors say they killed 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara in November.
But the Craigslist killer claims that LaFerrara was just one of dozens of people killed. In an interview with The Daily Item newspaper, Barbour claimed to killing many others across Alaska, Texas, North Carolina, and California.
Police are now working to see if the statements from the Craigslist killer are true. Chief Steve Mazzeo told USA Today that the department was in contact with “various state and federal agencies to determine the veracity” of Miranda Barbour’s claims.
In the interview, Miranda Barbour said she was sexually abused as a child and went on to join a satanic cult in Alaska when she was just 13. Barbour claims the cult leader instructed her to kill a man who owed the cult leader money, a killing that took place when Barbour was just 15.
“And then from there I just continued to kill,” she told the newspaper.
The so-called Craigslist killer said she went on to kill men she met on Craislist, including LaFerrara. Miranda claimed that she arranged to have sex with LaFerrara for $100, and they met in a mall parking lot before driving to Sunbury.
Barbour claims she gave LaFerrara a kind of test, telling him she was only 16.
“He told me that it was OK. If he would have said no, that he wasn’t going to go through with the arrangement, I would have let him go,” she claimed.
Police say that Barbour stabbed LaFerrara 20 times while her husband strangled the man with a cord.
The Craigslist killer claims that she wasn’t admitting to the slayings for attention, but instead said “it is time for me to be honest.”
