You may have never heard of Instagram star Jen Selter, but her 2 million-plus followers and her perfectly sculpted posterior just earned her a deal with a huge sports management agency — one that will likely make her a very wealthy woman.
Selter, who is still only 20 years old, already had well over a million followers on Instagram and was raking in “a lot more money than a (college) graduate would be making,” she said, from several endorsement deals when The New York Post ran an article about her on January 2. Since then, her career options are growing bigger than her prominent butt, which is what made her famous in the first place.
Selter, a native of Roslyn, New York, who was written up in People Magazine four years ago in an article on “Teenage Plastic Surgery” — she had a nose job at age 15 after enduring cyber-bullying about her appearance — has no illusions about the source of her fame.
She started posting Instagram photos in March 2012, of herself working out in a New York gym. But it was the results of those workouts on her hind quarters that drew an online crowd.
“I don’t really post a lot of face pictures,” she told the Post. “I mainly do body selfies. Not that I care what people think, but they don’t care. They don’t want to see my face.”
Want they want to see, apparently, are shots like this one.
“We believe she can be the next Jillian Michaels,” said Andrew Witlieb, an agent at The Legacy Agency, which also represents such sports celebrities as former football star (now broadcaster) Troy Aikman, baseball all-star Carl Crawford and NFL running back Reggie Bush, and has now made Instagram derriere-queen Jen Selter its newest client.
Though she has no background or certification as a fitness trainer, Selter’s resume as a media-friendly workout guru is growing fast. She is a spokesperson for Game Plan Nutrition and also has an endorsement deal with the water company NY20.
Cosmpolitan Magazine ran an online feature with workout tips from Selter this week, aptly titled, 5 Moves For Getting the Best Ass Ever, Demonstrated by Jen Selter. Here Selter demonstrates a sample move.
“She was someone I never heard of that had 1.3 million Instagram followers, now 2 million, since the Post story,” Witlieb said. “This was a combo of health, wellness and fitness meets social media. This girl’s really onto something.”
Something indeed. In case anyone forgets, here she is again, displaying that “something” on Instagram.
