Angie Harmon Pitches Charlotte, N.C. Studio

Angie Harmon lends her star power to the pitch to create a studio and film school out of an old mall.

In a related report from The Inquisitr, Angie Harmon recently admitted she’s a Republican, and doesn’t understand why the rest of the world assumes all Hollywood stars are liberal.

Angie Harmon joined the Charlotte City Council meeting Thursday to support the proposal to turn the local Eastland mall into movie studios. She is also the newest member of the Studio Charlotte Development board, and spoke with passion for the project:

“I can bring insight into the business, I begged them (Studio Charlotte) to let me be a part of it. It just seems like it’s a no-brainer for me. The studio is, you know, eight sound stages. That’s an amazing project, the arts magnet school that would be there.”

At question is the Development Boards’ request to the city for the 80 acre site (for free), and city and county incentives including property tax rebates, totaling $24.7 million. The project argues that they will bring new revenue to the area, but an immediate issue was the upfront cost needed by the developer to transform the property to a studio. Other hurdles are whether or not the state will continue it’s 25 percent tax credit for film and TV productions and the lack of details given to the city by the project.The council is planning to know more in February.

Angie Harmon believes one solid benefit of the project would be that NASCAR drivers could film their commercials locally meaning they wouldn’t have to travel and keep the trickle down money local. Studio Charlotte Senior VP Barbara McKay, said her friend Angie was an easy sell:

“When we told her what our plans are, for making this all about jobs, jobs and more jobs, and making this an educational center, then she said ‘I’m on board'”
