Dunkin’ Donuts To Open Around 800 New Locations Around The Globe

Dunkin’ Donuts will expand its presence in the global market over the course of the year.

According to the press release issued Monday (January 13), the company is looking to open between 380 and 410 new Dunkin’ Donuts stores in the United States alone. Approximately 100 new locations should start popping up throughout California over 2014, with a handful of shops targeting for the northern region of the state.

Dunkin’ Donuts has plans for the international market as well; the chain is hoping to have between 685 and 800 new locations up and running around the globe by the end of the year. The company presently has around 11,000 Dunkin’ Donuts and 7,250 Baskin-Robbins locations in operation right now.

Over the course of 2013, Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins opened a combined 790 new stores in several markets. Since business is currently booming, Dunkin’ Brands CEO Nigel Travis said the company will attempt to capitalize on this success by opening even more locations around the world.

“We are delighted with Dunkin’ Donuts’ accelerated growth across the US, which demonstrates ongoing strong demand for our brand, and we remain on track for a five percent net annual development rate for Dunkin’ Donuts US We are especially pleased with the solid start to our development plans in California where, to date, we have executed agreements for nearly 100 traditional restaurants,” Travis explained.

He continued, “Additional good news is that in 2013 Baskin-Robbins, which has been experiencing strong growth internationally for many years, also had positive net development growth in the US, marking a major milestone in the turnaround of the brand domestically.”

Dunkin’ Donuts certainly has big plans lined up for the restaurants over the span of the next few years. The company hopes to have upwards of 1,000 locations in California alone. Their plans for the US as a whole are even greater; Travis wants approximately 15,000 restaurants up and running across the US in the foreseeable future.

While Dunkin’ Donuts wants to expand into several cities throughout California, the company is still having a hard time getting people in San Francisco to open their collective arms to the restaurants. Since the city wants to keep the focus on local businesses, Dunkin’ Donuts could have a hard time finding a place to set up shop.

However, this isn’t stopping the folks at Dunkin’ Donuts from bringing an estimated 45 new locations to Southern California by 2015. Whether the company can eventually get a foothold in San Francisco is still up in the air.
