Hilary Duff Splits From Husband Mike Comrie

Former Disney star Hillary Duff and husband Mike Comrie are splitting.

The sad news was confirmed by Duff’s rep to People magazine on Friday, saying they “have mutually decided (upon) an amicable separation.

“They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.”

According to a source close to Hillary Duff, there was no particular incident that cause the split:

“There was no major incident – no big event between the two of them. They really did drift apart. They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples therapy, but in the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends. And they really are great friends.”

The source adds that Hillary Duff and her now ex-husband plan to co-parent their 21-month-old son Luca Cruz, and will still go to the park together, like a normal family.

For Hillary this was not a rash decision; she really struggled through it and thought hard about what the best decision for her and her family was.

In 2009, Hillary Duff gushed about Comrie saying, “I’ve never met anyone who can say a bad word about him,” she said. “He’s generous, caring and sunny. We just laugh our heads off.”

But even though the marriage didn’t work in the end for them, they still care deeply about each other, says the source.

After their son was born, Hillary Duff once again sang Comrie’s praises, saying he had become a great dad.

“He’s an amazing father,” she told People. “He’s so patient and loving and involved. He’s all the things that I knew that he would be.”

The couple began dating in 2007 and married on August 14, 2010. Their son Luca was born March 20, 2012.

Hillary Duff took to Twitter to relate how she and Mike Comrie were dealing with the difficult situation:

“Mike and I are sitting here,we are so appreciative for all of your kindness& well wishes. Not an easy day but we’re getting thru it together.”

Hilary Duff will be focusing on her singing career in the new year, with a new single coming out in the spring.
