Katy Perry Finally Sells West Hollywood Mansion

Katy Perry is finally rid of the house she owned with ex-husband Russell Brand.

The singer reportedly put her house up for grabs back in 2013. Although she initially listed the West Hollywood mansion for $8 million, Perry couldn’t find anyone to take the property off her hands. Over the course of the year, the singer steadily dropped the price.

Sources told TMZ that Katy Perry finally ditched the house she shared with Brand on December 31. The final price: $5.6 million. When you take into consideration all the fees associated with such a sale, it seems the singer lost quite a bit of money on the transaction.

Instead of moving straight into the mansion, the insider said the buyer intends to gut the entire house. The new owner has over 8,800 square feet to re-design.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand purchased the West Hollywood mansion back in 2011. However, the couple decided to end their relationship 14 months after tying the knot. The “Roar” singer was later granted the property during the divorce, though she clearly didn’t have any intention of keeping it for herself.

The house is a three-story 1920s Mediterranean-style pad situated in Laurel Canyon. Depending on who you ask about the expensive property, it is sometimes referred to as DeWitt Mansion. As you may have read on other sites, it’s also unofficially known in certain circles as Katy Perry’s divorce house.

Getting rid of the mansion is yet another step forward for Katy Perry. The divorce from Russell Brand was reportedly a pretty nasty situation, one that almost jeopardized her relationship with fellow singer John Mayer. A lot of the turmoil she experienced during this time inspired songs on her latest album Prism.

“I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted. It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me. That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, ‘If I don’t do some self-love, I’m not going to be able to keep the love that I want,” Perry explained in December.

She added, “I still needed to deal with all of my ex-husband stuff. I hadn’t. It’s almost like if I kept talking about it, it would seem like I actually cared about it. I don’t.”
