Demi Lovato: ‘I’ve Lost The Privilege Of Being Able To Drink Responsibly’

Demi Lovato is coming clean with all her personal struggles and recently admitted that as a result of the alcohol abuse, she has “lost the privilege of being able to drink responsibly.”

The former Disney star knows she can’t casually drink or smoke, because it will get out of control.

“Some people can smoke and drink recreationally. I’m not one of those people. If I do that, it will spiral out of control very quickly. I’ve lost the privilege of being able to drink responsibly.”

The 21-year-old was in rehab for a host of issues including, drinking, drug abuse, an eating disorder, depression, and self-cutting.

Now that she has come out clean with her problems, Demi Lovato, is speaking out and encouraging her fans to learn from her troubled past.

Her father passed away earlier this year and Demi Lovato admits, it was very hard not to fall for her past addictions again, however, she realized that it was important to stay strong.

In an interview with OK! the young singer says:

“I’ve definitely struggled a lot with drug and alcohol addictions – even more than with my eating disorder.

“But I decided to stay strong when my father died. I worked so hard on my sobriety – I wasn’t going to give it up. When I feel like I want to give up I think to myself, ‘No, what about the 17-year-old girl that’s been free of self-harming for nine months?’

“If I give up my sobriety, that would mean it would be OK for her to go back to self-harming.”

Demi Lovato has lived more than most people at her young age, but through perseverance and help from her family and management team, she appears to be on the right track again.

In a candid interview with Access Hollywood the Camp Rock star detailed her time as a drug and alcohol addict.

“I couldn’t go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes. I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I’d sneak to the bathroom and I’d do it.”

In 2010, Demi Lovato quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers to check herself into rehab, after her parents and management team staged an intervention.

Later, her mom, threatened to take her back home to Texas, where she would not be able to see her younger sister, if she didn’t clean up her act.

Demi Lovato decided to turn her life around and now she is, once again, working and is a judge on the reality TV show The X Factor, has a new album, Demi, and has returned to acting.
