‘United States Has Not Abandoned Robert Levinson’, Says Secretary Of State Kerry

Contrary to Robert Levinson’s family’s claim, the United States has not abandoned the former FBI agent in Iran, according to Secretary of State John Kerry.

This week, it was revealed that Levinson, who went missing seven years ago, was working for United States intelligence, as a CIA undercover agent, hired by what the government is calling unauthorized analysts.

However, the White House is denying the report issued by the Associated Press and the Washington Post who allegedly held on to the information for at least three-years after United States officials told them they were working on Levinson’s release.

“There hasn’t been progress in the sense that we don’t have him back, but to suggest that we abandoned him or anybody has abandoned him is simply incorrect and not helpful,” United States State Secretary Kerry said on ABC’s This Week.

“I have personally raised the issue, not only at the highest level that I have been involved with, but also through other intermediaries.”

“We don’t have any meeting with anybody who has something to do with Iran or an approach to Iran where we don’t talk to them about how we might be able to find not just Mr. Levinson, but we have two other Americans that we’re deeply concerned about.”

Kerry was referring to pastor Saeed Abedini, whose wife has been trying to secure his release and former Marine Amir Hekmati, who was accused by Teheran of spying for the CIA and was sentenced to death on January 9, 2012.

According to Fox News, a North Carolina native, who is believed to have been the last person to see Robert Levinson alive, is denying any involvement in the United States citizen’s disappearance.

“Personally, I have nothing to say except that I did not contact any Iranian official and would rather be dead than an asset for the world’s leading terror apparatus, i.e, the CIA,” Dawud Salahuddin told NBC News in an email in response to inquiries concerning Levinson.

The United States has denied that the former FBI agent was working for the government in any capacity, but the AP is standing by their story.

A source close to the investigation said there is proof that Levinson was working as a CIA undercover agent while also working as a private investigator.

The missing American’s family is criticizing the United States’ government response to the situation:

“Bob is a courageous man who has dedicated himself, including risking his own life, in service to the U.S. government. But the US government has failed to make saving this good man’s life the priority it should be.”

Levinson is 65-years-old, and it is unclear whether the information released this week will bring him any additional harm.
