Jake Gyllenhaal Hospitalized After Punching A Mirror On Set


There has been much talk about Jake Gyllenhaal recently, and it all has to do with his new role in the film Nightcrawler. Now, it’s being reported that Gyllenhaal was briefly hospitalized after a mishap on the set of the film.

According to reports, Gyllenhaal landed in the emergency room after he punched a mirror on the Los Angeles set of his talked about film Nightcrawler. According to a source close to production, “Jake flipped out.”

The source went on to explain to People about what led to Jake Gyllenhaal’s hospitalization:

“His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital.”

For those who are worried that Gyllenhaal is going through some anger management issues, you can quell your fears right now. According to another source, Gyllenhaal was simply in an intense moment during filming, which also happened to be an 18-hour-day on set.

The second source, who confirmed Jake Gyllenhaal’s hospitalization, gave more detail to his Nightcrawler scene:

“The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him. It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else.”

This isn’t the only time that Nightcrawler has landed Gyllenhaal some attention. The actor’s appearance has received a ton of attention from outlets due to his gaunt face and slimmer frame. Gyllenhaal reportedly lost twenty pounds for the role. A source confirms that before shooting Gyllenhaal had been “intensely focused” to lose the weight for the crime-scene reporter role in the film.

During an interview with E!, Gyllenhaal said of the intense role:

“I can only approach things from a mental place. Like I’m playing a character who’s hungry, figuratively and literally, who’s driven in ways to do things and succeed at any cost. And I think that defines a generation in a lot of way so I wanted to get their mentally and then have it transform me physically, because I am not one to rely on science as much as I am on just sort of instinct. That’s sort of the character.”

Despite Jake Gyllenhaal receiving stitches for his injury, Gyllenhaal was a consummate professional and returned to work later on in the day. What a trooper!
