Porn Stars To Wear Safety Glasses And Condoms Under New Law

Porn stars may be required to wear safety glasses and use condoms if a new law is passed in California. The bill, which is known as AB640, is stalled at the moment in the Senate.

The 21-page bill is being put forward following a number of famous porn stars who were veterans in the industry were diagnosed with AIDS and other STI’s.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) say that the reason for using condoms is obvious but that protective goggles would also be effective in ensuring semen doesn’t enter the eyes.

Deborah Gold, deputy chief at OSHA, said that barrier methods such as condoms and goggles are already technically required on porn shoots although almost no companies in the industry adhere to those regulations.

If the bill passes and is implemented there is slated to be a trial period in which porn stars can perform oral sex without condoms or goggles.

The only mainstream porn production company that requires their actors to wear condoms for vaginal and anal sex is Wicked pictures.

Peter Ackworth, CEO of the fetish site Kink.com, told reporters that the new bill is not welcomed by most producers in the porn industry. He said the new regulations: “basically criminalize the production of porn.”

Lily Lebeau, a well-known actress in the porn industry told reporters: “I wouldn’t mind using condoms more. It’s just not what people want to see.”

The Free Speech Coalition, a group representing the film industry, is opposed to the new bill as it may stop the required STI testing which porn stars have every 28 days.

Apart from anything else the question is how would the new legislation affect the viewers experience of porn movies. Does it matter to you that less than flattering goggles and condoms will be a part of your mandatory watching experience?
