Trucker On Facebook Kills Police Officer In Car Crash

A truck driver on Facebook “was looking at pictures of women on Facebook” when he crashed into a police car, and killed an officer on patrol.

Tim Huffman was killed during the collision on the Arizona interstate, after Jorge Espinoza’s truck crashed into his automobile at around 65mph. Espinoza’s dashboard camera even captures the preceding moments before he slams into the car.

Espinoza crashed into three other police vehicles, as well as two police trucks, and it was miraculous that only one officer died. He has now been charged with second-degree murder.

The incident occurred on May 6, but it has now only come to light that Espinoza was actually checking out his Facebook page, as well as numerous other websites that included YouTube and various pornography sites, while he traveled eastbound along Yuma County’s Interstate 8.

The investigation revealed that Espinoza had deployed his cruise control as he paced along the carriageway at 65mph. A video has now emerged that shows Espinoza looking at a wallet, which is completely blocking his view of the road, as he travels along.

The camera pointing towards the road then shows that there are a number of cars up ahead that he is about to crash into. Espinoza only becomes aware that he was in danger when he collided with the first car, which made his Samsung Galaxy 3 fly out of his hand, and this then saw him bounce into numerous other vehicles.

All in all, six vehicles in the collision were destroyed, which included Espinoza’s trailer and truck. When Espinoza was originally quizzed by officers after the incident he claimed that he had never used his phone while he was driving as it is against the company’s policy.

However, when officers went to examine Espinoza’s mobile phone it was discovered that he had been scouring the internet in the seconds before the tragedy.

Officers revealed that he was on Facebook looking at “photographs of several women in provocative positions, wearing little clothing,” as well as “photographs of a woman in a low cut dress.”

In the past, it was also revealed that Espinoza had also used his phone to look at YouTube, female escort pages, and various porn sites, all while he was driving.

Huffman had been sat in his car at the time of the crash, and emergency services were already at the incident dealing with another collision at the time.

The investigation finished, “Espinoza would have been able to perceive the danger in the roadway and not cause the death of Officer Tim Huffman, endangered the lives of 11 other emergency responders and destroyed six vehicles, including a new semi-tractor and trailer owned by his employer, if he had not chosen to distract himself while accessing Facebook from his cellular telephone while operating his assigned commercial vehicle”
