Derek Hough Weighs In On Julianne Hough’s Controversial Halloween Costume
Derek Hough, big brother to Julianne Hough, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding his kid sister’s Orange is the New Black Halloween costume.
The entire world looked on in amazement as the Dancing with the Stars alum debuted her controversial outfit. Many people took issue with the dancer’s use of blackface, though Julianne seemed unaware that her costume would offend scores of individuals.
Shortly after photos of the outfit made the rounds online, Derek Hough decided to weigh in on the controversy. During his chat with E! News, Julianne’s brother said she deeply regrets dressing up as her favorite character from the Netflix program.
“She’s so apologetic. She’s so so sorry and I just hope that we can all forgive her and move on,” Derek Hough explained to the news outlet.
He continued, “She’s my little baby sister and she’s the sweetest thing ever. She is just beyond beside herself. Obviously, it wasn’t her brightest moment in her life, but hopefully we can move on.”
The Inquisitr previously reported that Julianne Hough quickly issued an apology once she realized people were very offended by her costume. Although she meant no harm with the outfit, Hough told her followers on Twitter just how sorry she was for causing trouble.
“I am a huge fan of the show ‘Orange is the New Black’, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” she wrote on the micro-blogging site.
For those who missed the news over the weekend, Julianne Hough dressed up as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren from the hit series Orange is the New Black. According to ABC News, the dancer accented the twists in her hair with very dark makeup. Not surprisingly, a lot of people were quite shocked by her thoughtless decision.
Although Derek Hough hopes that people will forgive his sister for her mistake, it’s clear that folks are still a little outraged by the Halloween costume.

I'm more upset that Julianne Hough dressed like a good actress.

What's strange is that while everyone knows that wearing blackface make-up is offensive, virtually nobody knows who Julianne Hough is.

Julianne Hough wore blackface to a Halloween party. Guess she'd didn't want 'Rock of Ages' to be the worst thing she ever did.

New favorite part of Halloween is seeing what celebrities are stupid enough to go blackface. Thanks Julianne Hough! pic.twitter.com/Ctd2lPIXPo
