‘It’s Your Fault’ Blames Women For Rape, But Is It Okay To Laugh? [Video]

“It’s Your Fault” is a satirical response to rape culture, but is it okay to laugh?

Yes, because it’s called “dark comedy” and that’s sort of the point. If you’re doing it right, you’re not laughing because “ha ha rape is funny,” you’re laughing because the absurdity of rape apologism, i.e. that rape is somehow the victim’s fault, is laid out very cunningly in an entertaining format.

The video was put together by the Indian comedy group All India Bakchod, which does podcasts and live performances, as well as videos for a series titled AIB 365.

“AIB 365 is a weekly sketch show from India’s edgiest, politically incorrect comedy collective AIB,” the group writes. “AIB comprises of Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamba, Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakya.”

As for the “It’s Your Fault” video, AIB writes “Every sexual assault case in India inspires a string of stupid and hateful remarks against women. This is our response to those remarks.”

The video has gone semi-viral since being published earlier this week with over 200,000 views on YouTube and a very positive reception among commenters so far.

“Awesome guys, high time someone did this. please consider making the same message in hindi for a larger audience,” wrote one commenter on Facebook.

“One of the best videos ever! Thank you Kalki, for being so awesome! And thank you people, for giving me hope for humanity,” wrote another on YouTube. “Sarcasm at its best!”
