Fox Host Opens Show In Spanish, ‘Practicing’ For Immigration Reform

Fox News political commentator and host Eric Bolling chose to open Thursday’s episode of The Five in Spanish. Why? He’s preparing for life after immigration reform.

The debate-forum show opened with Bolling’s lament of the Senate’s passage of a comprehensive immigration reform bill, opining that it will change “the very definition of the American dream and the ethnic landscape forever.”

He then introduced in Spanish, and said that he’s “just practicing.”

After announcing the show’s line-up, he turned to Bob Beckel, noting that he seemed as though he had something he wanted to say.

Beckel, the panel’s sole liberal commentator, said that he was offended by the opening, and wryly blasted Bolling for his poor Spanish.

“Whenever there’s been massive immigration of ethnic groups into this country going back 150 years,” Beckel said, “they always say that the landscape is going to change. They did it with the Irish, remember ‘Irish need not apply?’ They did it with the Italians.”

He said that Bolling is “jumping to conclusions” in his assumption that 11 million illegal immigrants being granted amnesty and a path to citizenship will “change the landscape.”

Bolling replied that he didn’t say that the legislation would change things for better or worse, merely that it will change the landscape somehow.

What do you think of the immigration legislation that was passed in the Senate? Do you think that Eric Bolling was insensitive by opening The Five in Spanish?
