‘Buckwild’ Done For Good, MTV Blocks Revival On Other Networks

Sorry, Buckwild fans. MTV just can’t stomach another season of the hit reality series, or a revival on another network after the death of the show’s breakout star Shain Gandee.

MTV’s cancellation of Buckwild left producer J.P. Williams (and the cast) furious. He most recently vowed to revive the show with a new cast in a new location, even on another network if need be.

“There was no explanation,” Williams, manager to eight Buckwild cast members including the late Gandee, told The Hollywood Reporter after the show’s cancellation. “My job is to protect these kids … This will get ugly.”

He also said that he’d keep shooting Buckwild anyway, and was attempting to shop the concept to other networks. The only problem is that MTV could block him from doing so by refusing to turn over the rights to the show, which they have done as of Friday.

Williams said that though there was interest in a Buckwild revival from other networks, MTV execs Van Toffler and Susanne Daniels won’t let the show loose.

In response … Well, let’s just say it seems pretty clear that Williams won’t be working with MTV ever again.

“MTV is the most hypocritical network out there,” he said. “Van and Susanne can keep promoting pre-martial sex and promoting leaving the baby after you have it [a reference to Teen Mom]. I’m so glad they have found their moral bar.”

After Gandee died in a mudding accident, MTV halted production on Buckwild immediately, cancelling it a week later.

“After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of ‘Buckwild’ in West Virginia,” they said in an official statement. “We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately.”

Reaction to Buckwild’s cancellation has been decidedly mixed. Some think that cancelling the show is the proper thing to do in light of Gandee’s death, while others believe that he would have wanted them to carry on.

Are you upset that Buckwild is cancelled for good, or do you wish MTV would let the producers bring it back?
