The ‘Right To Be Stupid’ Is Worth Fighting For, Says John Kerry [Video]

Every American has the right to be stupid, according to John Kerry.

The Secretary of State was talking to a group of German students about freedom of speech in the United Sates and said that “you have a right to be stupid if you want to be” in America.

Kerry said:

“People have sometimes wondered about why our Supreme Court allows one group or another to march in a parade even though it’s the most provocative thing in the world and they carry signs that are an insult to one group or another… The reason is, that’s freedom, freedom of speech. In America you have a right to be stupid – if you want to be.”

Kerry went on to say that the right to be stupid was something to fight for. The Secretary of State may not approve of some people’s bigoted or racist believes but he does believe that they have the right to believe what they want.

Kerry said:

“We tolerate it. We somehow make it through that. Now, I think that’s a virtue. I think that’s something worth fighting for. The important thing is to have the tolerance to say, you know, you can have a different point of view.”

The Christian Post reports that Kerry is currently on his first overseas tour since he became the Secretary of State earlier this month. Kerry will be traveling to London, Berlin, Peris, Rome, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, and several other major cities during his tour.

What do you think of John Kerry’s comment? Do you agree that American’s should have the right to be stupid?
