LeAnn Rimes Denies Being Drunk On ‘The X Factor’ [Video]

After being criticized for her duet of her hit “How Do I Live” with Carly Rose Sonenclar on Wednesday’s episode of The X Factor, LeAnn Rimes took to Twitter to deny allegations that she was drunk while singing with the 13-year-old.

“In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage,” Rimes wrote. “It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl.”

Rimes continued, “And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is: ‘It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.'”

Rimes appeared to be stumbling on stage a little bit and held on to the young contestant at one point, but if there was anything wrong with the beleaguered country-pop singer, Sonenclar either couldn’t tell or was smart enough not to react.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Rimes was “hoarse due to being sick,” which had either gone ignored or unnoticed by the judges. However, the Huffington Post called Rimes’ performance “uneven and uncomfortable.”

Still, questions about Rimes’ odd performance aren’t entirely without merit, even if it turns she was simply under the weather. Rimes opened up to Katie Couric in October about her relationship with husband Eddie Cibrian and her voluntary stint into rehab for anxiety and stress on August 29, one day after her 30th birthday. She has also been in an ongoing battle with Cibrian’s ex-wife Brandi Glanville. Perhaps the troubles she has been having lately have finally taken a toll on her, or maybe it was just an off day for the Grammy winner.
