‘Married At First Sight’ Season 5 Episode 9 Review: Nate’s Angry Mom , A Trolling Anthony And A Pitiful Cody

Married at First Sight Season 5 continued on its steady pace in this week’s episode, with two couples progressing steadily and one pair apparently heading for a breakup. As MAFS Season 5 Episode 9 aired, viewers and avid fans of the hit reality TV show witnessed Sheila’s trust issues with Nate, a notable argument between Nate and his mother, Anthony teasing Ashley in a furniture store and Cody looking downright miserable with Danielle, regardless of his efforts to make their marriage work.

Contestants signing up for Married at First Sight know that there is always a risk to be taken. In a lot of ways, however, the premise of the show does work, as proven by the number of couples who actually opted to stay together after the reality TV show’s eight-week post-marriage trial period. Inasmuch as Married at First Sight has had its share of hits, however, it also has its own fair share of misses. This season, it appears that the hit reality TV show will have a little bit of both by the time it ends its run. Here is a brief recap and review of the events that transpired on MAFS Season 5 Episode 9.

Sheila and Nate

Among all the couples this season, Sheila and Nate seem to be the ones who are progressing the most. While the episode featured Nate being quite upset over Sheila suggesting that she does not trust him enough to let him loose in a club filled with single women, MAFS Season 5 Ep 9 also featured some heartwarming scenes between the two. Among these included a yoga session and some fun activities with Nate’s younger brother. At one point in the episode, it was revealed that Sheila opted to change her last name to Nate’s, and the latter’s almost tearful reaction was quite a joy to watch, as noted by viewers and avid fans of the show in online forums such as Reddit.

If there were something that seemed to put a damper on the couple’s relationship this week, however, it would be Nate’s mother. During her segment in the recently aired episode, it was evident that she did not approve of her son’s marriage to a stranger, and their discussion turned into a full argument, with Nate later stating that the time might come when he would be forced to choose between his wife and his mother.

Ashley and Anthony

Just like Nate and Sheila, Ashley and Anthony have always had a pretty great dynamic with each other. Recently, however, the couple has met some rough patches, caused primarily by Ashley having issues about the premise of taking her husband’s last name, and Anthony being reluctant about the idea of having a baby. Considering that the couple had only met each other a few weeks ago, Anthony’s reservations about bringing a child into this world are understandable. Nevertheless, the way Ashley and Anthony react to each other still suggests that the couple is pretty much head over heels for one another.

In a particularly memorable moment in this week’s episode, Ashley was gushing over her marriage to her friends, which seemed to suggest that she was quite happy about where she was in her relationship with Anthony. Despite his initial reservations about having a child this early in their marriage, Anthony also teased his wife as they were looking at furniture, asking her if they should start looking at cribs. Overall, Anthony and Ashley seemed to be developing together as a couple, and avid fans of the hit reality TV series are extremely optimistic about their future as a married pair.

Danielle and Cody

Over the past weeks, avid fans of Married at First Sight have been hard on Cody, especially since he was pretty much a cold fish to his wife right after their honeymoon. Since then, however, the 26-year-old has been trying really hard to live up to his wife’s expectations. Unfortunately for Cody, he just happened to fail, every single time. During the recently aired episode, Cody helped Danielle wash her dogs, and she did not like how he was cleaning them. He also did a lot of housework and other domestic tasks, according to People Magazine, though his wife still found his efforts not manly enough. While Danielle admitted that she sees her husband really trying, she nevertheless stated that he still lacked what she wants in a man.

This is not to say that the couple’s problems are only Danielle’s fault, however. Cody is to blame for a lot of their troubles too. During the recently released episode, Danielle simply wanted her husband to confirm the time for a wedding that he RSVP’d even before meeting her, but he waited until the last minute before he finally asked. When it became evident that the nuptials were going to conflict with a birthday party Danielle needed to attend, her reaction was so bad that Cody downright asked her if there was a part of her that did not want their marriage to work. At the end of the couple’s segment, it seemed that Danielle was ready to throw in the towel.
