Superfetation leads to odd pregancy in Arkansas

Well, there goes one of the most palpable benefits to getting knocked up.

Some unlucky (or lucky, depending on how you look at it) woman in Arkansas appears to have managed to get pregnant while she was already pregnant. While false tales of strange pregnancies often make it through to the mainstream news, (remember the woman who claimed to be pregnant with 12 fetuses, but wasn’t pregnant at all?) this particular case appears to be the real thing.

Todd and Julia Grovenburg, who really need to start double bagging it, learned that they were expecting a baby girl. Not too long after that, doctors discovered a younger, smaller male fetus behind the first one. Scared of ever shagging again? Don’t be too concerned- doctors say that there have only been ten reported cases of superfetation throughout history.

While prognosis for the Grovenburgs is good due to the short time between respective conceptions, superfetation can be dangerous for the second fetus if due dates are far apart. Interestingly though, baby one is due at the end of 2009, while baby two has an EDD in 2010.
