Diane Sawyer Drunk? Anchor’s Slurring Gets Mocked On Twitter [Video]
Did you watch the election coverage last night? Did you notice Diane Sawyer slurring? Many people accused the legendary TV anchor of being drunk last night while covering the election while others insist that Sawyer was just exhausted.
The TV anchor had good reason to be exhausted. Election coverage went well into the morning before President Obama finally took the stage to give his speech after winning the election.
A senior TV source told the Daily Mail:
“Diane’s fine, she’s exhausted … Diane’s been up for days and she’s had many sleepless nights. She was covering the hurricane and then preparing for the election broadcast. If you knew Diane you’d realize she’s one of the hardest working people on television. She likes to cram things in, she likes to have every fact at her finger tips…and I think that came at the expense of the broadcast.”
New York Times reporter Brian Stelter wrote on Twitter:
“Diane Sawyer’s name is trending. Many people saying she seems drunk on air. Alternative theory: she gets this way when she’s really tired.”
Sawyer probably wasn’t drunk during last night’s broadcast, but her exhaustion did hurt last night’s show. Sawyer continually slurred her speech and talked while leaning heavily on her arms.

This isn’t the first time that Diane Sawyer has been accused of being drunk during an important broadcast. The legendary anchor was also caught slurring her words after Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

I have to say that in my 40s I noticed of myself that when I am way over tired and have run all day and been overly busy. Ive been told I become incohearant. My speech gets slurred and I cant focus and get my thoughts out clearly. Apparenly its not ok to be overly tired and try to do live reports. Someone should have told her then though and knowing how she is she would have addressed it in a 30 second comment on air instead of the " rumors" of why it happened.

FYI anyone with one ounce has to realize that this recession started with BUSH and his war on WMD. Cheney made MILLIONS because of that war. No wonder Cheney daughter is a lesbian. At first I thought it was the TV but DIANE SAWYER'S head movement delivering the nightly 6:00 PM news is weird and detracts from her delivery. Every word she says creates a move to the right or left, up or down, nod or frown, sigh, shake and even the long pause gets a movement.The pause means somethings stuck in her throat I guess. Some words get the double or triple move in all directions, in case you missed the first one. Or while making a positive statement , her head moves in a negative mode, left-to-right. Even the Sign Off gets the left-right-up-down and the sad look. Reviewing comments I was amazed that no one else picks it up. Me…. I switched to FOX news…CLEAR AND BALANCED HEADS!

Just because Diane talked like she did last night doesn't make it right saying she was drunk or high on drugs. Conan O'Brien, Dave Letterman, and Stephen Cobert make people laugh, but that doesn't make them a comedian…WHICH BY THE WAY, THEY AREN'T!

At first her movements and speech reminded me of Michael J. Fox when he is off his meds for Multiple Sclerosis. Then I realized this woman is extremely fatigued, which also happens to be a symptom of MS. That current Lifeline ad with Dr. Joyce Brothers also makes me squirm. Many of her movements are also those used by people with conditions such as MS to "trick" the brain into maintaining some control over their body and to prevent a prolonged period of severe trembling.

I have a great deal of respect for her and thought immediately when I just saw her that she looked too tired. My heart goes out to her because at her age, she is doing a fabulous job! Our bodies get tired all too soon after age 50! She is tremendous on the job!
