Blake Shelton ‘Feels Pressure’ When Gwen Stefani Is Around, Blake’s New Year’s Eve Plans Revealed

Blake Shelton has confessed that being with Gwen Stefani makes him feel invisible, but he’ll be very visible this New Year’s Eve.

On Tuesday night, Blake Shelton performed his new single “A Guy with a Girl” on The Voice. He chatted with Access Hollywood about the song ahead of his first live TV performance of the tune, and he explained how it reflects his relationship with Gwen Stefani. According to Shelton, if he goes out in public and his glamorous girlfriend is with him, people treat him like he doesn’t exist.

“You see how it is, when you’re standing in the grocery store with her,” Blake Shelton said. “It’s literally like I’m not even there.”

As Billboard reports, Blake Shelton didn’t write “A Guy with a Girl.” It’s a song that had been in his possession for years, and his relationship with Gwen Stefani was what finally inspired him to record it. The song is about a guy who is with “the girl everybody wants to know.” Shelton feels like people only want to talk to her whenever they go out together, but this doesn’t bother him at all. Instead, it makes him realize just how lucky he is.

“‘A Guy With a Girl’ is my life right now,” Shelton said. “Out on the farm or touring, [I’m] that guy, and then at the end of the day, when it’s time to have a life and go to a party or something, I become the guy that’s with Gwen. It’s pretty cool.”

Blake revealed that Gwen loves the song, and she actually sat in on the recording sessions for “A Guy with a Girl.” Producer Scott Hendricks told Billboard that Blake sang better whenever Gwen was in the recording studio listening, which is a sentiment that Blake echoed during his Access Hollywood interview. He compared Gwen to Kris Kringle, and the country singer said that he’s always striving to be on her “nice” list.

“I think I get a little bit better performances out of myself when she’s around, because she’s Gwen Stefani,” Shelton said. “You feel pressure when she’s around watching, you know?”

“She’s like Santa Claus — she’s knows if I’ve been bad or not.”

It sounds like Blake Shelton will definitely want to invite Gwen Stefani to spend New Year’s Eve with him. According to People, the “She’s Got a Way with Words” singer is one of the musical acts lined up for NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly. Gwen performed during the show last year, so surely Blake’s fellow coach on Season 12 of The Voice will be allowed to attend the event again to support her boyfriend.

There’s no word on what Blake will be performing on New Year’s Eve, but he could always surprise the crowd in Times Square by inviting Gwen Stefani onstage for a performance of their duet, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.” Or maybe he’ll choose to perform “A Guy with a Girl” again.

Even though the event is a celebratory one, Blake Shelton doesn’t have to pick an upbeat love song if he doesn’t want to, as evidenced by Gwen Stefani’s 2015 New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly performance. As Just Jared reports, Gwen decided to sing “Used to Love You,” a heartbreaking song about her split from Gavin Rossdale.

Some Shefani fans are likely hoping that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton will be husband and wife by the time Blake takes the stage on New Year’s Eve — as the Inquisitr previously reported, there are rumors that Gwen and Blake plan on getting married this month. However, Gwen and Blake have remained mum about those persistent marriage reports.

During his Access Hollywood interview, Blake was asked if he plans on performing “A Guy with a Girl” at his wedding. However, Blake Shelton didn’t take the bait — he proved that he has a way with words by jokingly calling the show’s producers “sons of b***hes” for bringing up the wedding rumors.
