Zendaya, Tom Holland Become Friends As Actress Denies Mary Jane Rumors

Zendaya and her Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Tom Holland have been spending a lot of time together lately. It appears that the two actors have remained friends since they ended filming the highly-anticipated movie last month. Zendaya and Tom were recently spotted walking together in New York City on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

According to the Daily Mail, Zendaya, 20, sported a wet hair and makeup-free look during their outing. She was also seen wearing a Sherpa-lined denim jacket paired with a black T-shirt and a black pencil skirt. Meanwhile, Holland wore a navy blue hooded sweatshirt underneath his green plaid jacket, which he paired with maroon sweat pants.

The previous day, Holland and Zendaya reportedly visited the New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital dressed as their characters to bring smiles to their young fans faces. The Shake It Up star and the British actor became fast friends on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which started filming back in June, according to the previous Daily Mail report.

In a video shared on Twitter, Zendaya shared the reaction of a little boy when he saw Spider-Man. Tom flew into the boy’s hospital room and said, “I’m Spider-Man!” The boy didn’t appear too excited, so Tom asked, “Are you more of a Batman fan?” The boy shyly nodded, causing everyone to roar with laughter, according to Teen Vogue.

Holland took it in good stride, though. He was happy to brighten up the kids’ day. Check out Zendaya and Holland’s hilarious video below.

Fans have been wondering if Zendaya will be playing Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The actress was since dodging the rumors, but in an interview with ET Online, she confirmed that she wasn’t playing the fiery redhead from the comics who is also Peter Parker’s love interest.

“Well, I’m not Mary Jane unfortunately,” Zendaya says. “My character’s name is Michelle, if that’s what everyone wants to think. I’m gonna let people think whatever they want to think.”

It should also be noted, via GamesRadar, that Zendaya continued to wink at the camera, which means that she was trying to keep it coy. Both Zendaya and Marvel have been playing coy about the Mary Jane rumors, even when it comes to talking about her character. Zendaya previously mentioned that her character, ‘Michelle,’ is “very dry, awkward, [and] intellectual.”

Peter Parker reportedly has a love interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it’s not Mary Jane Watson and it’s not Zendaya’s character, according to MovieWeb.com. No other details about the film or the characters have not been reported. The reason why fans can’t seem to let this theory go though is because that actors are notorious for lying when it comes to revealing the details of their characters in these types of genre films.

For instance, J.J. Abrams won’t dish on whether Benedict Cumberbatch did play the role of Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness, despite the fact that the film was released years ago. Christopher Waltz also refused to confirm that he played Blofeld in Spectre. It’s any wonder if Zendaya’s character will ever be revealed, or if fans will have to figure it out once the movie drops. No wonder why they have a hard time believing her.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer is rumored to debut before Star Wars: Rogue One screenings next month, so Zendaya’s character may finally be revealed unless she continues to deny long after the movie drops. Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, and Donald Glover, Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
