Kanye West’s Stepmom Tells All: How His Childhood Affected The ‘Egomaniac’

What was Kanye West like as a kid? The rapper’s stepmother is spilling details about his traumatic childhood that transformed him into the egomaniac that he is today.

Exclusive childhood photographs and stories have been released to Radar Online by Kanye West’s own stepmother, Brenda Bentley. Kanye might not be too happy to hear that his own family is giving away details about his past while he is in the hospital for a psychological meltdown.

Kanye West was never the average child. When other kids his age were out getting into trouble, Kanye was learning to speak Chinese and do Tai Chi from the age of ten. The rapper was raised in a middle-class South Shore area of Chicago.

Kanye West’s beloved mother, Donda, and his father, Ray, divorced when the musician was just three-years-old. His parents remained amicable throughout his childhood. West lived with his mother but spent summers with his father. Ray eventually remarried Brenda Bentley, who became Kanye’s stepmom, who Kanye called “Miss Brenda.”

Bentley recalled Kanye as a “mild-mannered boy” who wouldn’t dare interrupt his father. These days, Kanye has interrupted awards ceremonies and his own concerts to voice his opinion.

“We were on the Metro going to a parade downtown. He was with his father, so he knew he had to behave. Ray wasn’t too strict as a dad, and it was summer – so that was playtime. He was a well-spoken boy and his father always insisted he had good manners.”

According to his stepmom, Kanye was nothing like the egotistical maniac he portrays onstage.

“At home he did his chores like making his bed. He was well behaved and if he ever had a tantrum it would not last long and he would go back to being a good boy again.”

Brenda described West as always having sophisticated tastes well beyond his years.

“Kanye loved museums and art. His father helped him develop sophisticated tastes. He used to love animations, artsy stuff, not Disney, that was too mundane. His father helped him to develop sophisticated tastes and become culturally rich.”

West’s stepmother claimed that what the fans see at his concerts is just a “persona,” and the rapper was actually pretty “normal” in real life.

“He was a cute little boy and he was always very good at school — his mother and father demanded he excel. I think most people misunderstand what he is really like. The person you see on stage is just a persona. He is not like that in normal life. He’s regular. One of his favorite things to do backstage is play Connect Four.”

Kanye West was always a sharp child. His mother, Donda, was a university professor and even took him to China when he was 10 as a part of an exchange program.

Kanye West is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after suffering from a mental breakdown.

According to TMZ, West’s medical emergency could possibly have saved him millions of dollars.

West announced the cancellation of the remaining tour dates on his Saint Pablo tour just hours before he was hospitalized.

The rapper reportedly lost around $30 million from his cut of the remaining concerts. However, Kanye’s insurance policy covers him in the event illness prevents him from performing. The policy provides the insurance carrier will pay Kanye for the money he would have made and the money he was obligated to pay others.
