Why Miley Cyrus’ And Liam Hemsworth’s On-Again-Off-Again Engagement Is Hollywood’s Most Overrated Relationship

Are they or are they not getting married? That seems to be what everyone is wondering when it comes to Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth — and the world has been wondering this since 2012.

Basically, Miley and Liam’s relationship seems to be one long, drawn out publicity stunt, even for Hollywood’s standards. The couple was first engaged back when Miley was only 19-years-old and Liam was 22, but that fell through as Cyrus continued on with her “Wrecking Ball” ways. Now, four years later, he put a ring (back) on it.

The relationship rumors started spinning again when Miley and Liam spent New Years Eve 2016 together in Australia. Then, just a few months later, Miley’s godmother, Dolly Parton, confirmed the couple was indeed an item once again, according to the Huffington Post. Oh, joy, right?

Fast forward 11 months and fans are still obsessing over whether or not the couple will tie the knot this time. And Miley and Liam are doing little to satisfy the questions. The couple puts just enough out there to keep people guessing, but never full-on launch into engagement mode. Take their social media accounts for example.

Miley has made a few posts involving her fiancé, but none of them are too romantic. A few months ago, the singer posted this shot of her wearing a shirt with his last name on it with a caption of emoji heart eyes. It’s enough to confirm the couple reconciled, but it’s really not giving her fans much besides that.

In comparison, the actor shared a flashback photo last month of him and Miley. For a couple that is supposedly re-engaged, their social media accounts are pretty much void of photos of them actually together. This only fuels the fire of rumors that Miley and Liam are on iffy terms, and a wedding may not be a sure thing.

There’s no doubt that Miley and Liam have love for one another, but is this love going to result in a marriage? Who knows. Sure, Miley is wearing her engagement ring again, but that really means very little with a couple as hot and cold as them.

In true Miley Cyrus fashion, she shared a sweet photo of Hemsworth relaxing with a dog he adopted in one of her Happy Hippie shirts. Once again, this photo does little to answer questions, but does keep people talking and wondering about their relationship.

According to a September 2016 article by Refinery29, Miley denied the engagement rumors as she’s not one for labels. The article says Cyrus referred to Hemsworth as her “boyfriend” during a candid interview with Elle she did the same month. So what gives?

Both Miley and Liam are well aware that people are dying to know their relationship status, yet conflicting headlines come out each day. While everyone is trying to figure out if the engagement is back on for good, the two stars are getting great publicity. Hemsworth, who is amazing in his own right, rarely makes news for anything other than dating Miley.

Miley may be a different story as her antics keep her on the front page, and wearing her engagement ring may be just another way to keep people talking. Cyrus did discuss her diamond ring, saying it isn’t exactly her style, and some sources take her acknowledgment of the ring as confirmation the couple is definitely getting married. However, neither one has mentioned specific details on any upcoming wedding plans. Could that be because Miley and Liam are taking things one day at a time, and her “engagement” is just that… a ring?
