South Carolina Woman Found Alive: Kala Brown Found Chained Up In Woodruff, Police Arrested Sex Offender

The South Carolina woman who went missing from Anderson along with her boyfriend was found alive. Kala Brown was found chained up inside a large metal container in Woodruff. Police have arrested a sex offender and is still searching for Brown’s boyfriend.

The Anderson couple have been missing for over two months, Fox Carolina reports. It was reported that Kala and her boyfriend Charlie Carver disappeared in late August. Since then, Kala’s mother, Bobbie Newsom, told police that her daughter hadn’t used any of her social media accounts or her cellphone. Mysteriously, Kala’s Facebook page suddenly showed some activity a couple weeks after she disappeared, but her mother was not convinced that Kala was fine.

On September 1, a post appeared that Kala and her boyfriend got married. Other mysterious posts appeared, including one stating that they were fine, but it was deleted shortly after being published.

They were posting stories about missing people. Friends and family were responding to the Facebook posts in attempt to find out where they were and why they were posting such stories.

One person commented, “Where the hell is Kala Brown???” A response was made from Charlie’s account, “She is with her husband Charlie.” The person on Charlie’s account continued responding to the comments.

“I’m just missing to everyone else. We are both ok. There is only one person that knows where we are… The person that means the most to me and Kala. She knows where we are and we are coming that way for ever.”

As the investigation continued, Kala was eventually discovered inside a 30-foot-by-15-foot metal container on the property of a man named Todd Kohlhepp, and was chained up by her neck. Lt. Kevin Bobo said that deputies heard her pounding, which led to her being found, WJACTV reports.

“It’s all by God’s grace we found that little girl alive.”

Todd Kohlhepp has been a registered sex offender since 1987 after he was convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a child under the age of 15.

Bobo further revealed that the victim mentioned that Kohlhepp could potentially have more victims buried on the property. Kala said that the suspect may be a serial killer; however, that is just speculation at this point.

Kala was taken to a local hospital for treatment and her boyfriend remains missing. The search is still going on to find Carver.

A person from Carver’s family mentioned that Charlie and Kala met Kohlhepp online and were “casual friends.”

A real estate agent who worked with Kohlhepp at TKA Real Estate said that she hopes that there is a mistake and claims that although she knows of his sexual predator status, this doesn’t sound like him.

“I’m really hoping that there’s a mistake or something. It doesn’t sound like him.”

Neighbors say that Kohlhepp did not stay at the property where Kala was found, but did visit the property regularly. It was mentioned that he normally came by around 6:00 p.m. and stayed for about an hour before leaving again. Neighbors never noticed anything strange or out of the ordinary.

At this moment, Kohlhepp is facing at least one kidnapping charge, but if the investigation leads to any dead bodies, he will be facing murder charges, as well. Wright made it clear that the investigation will be very thorough.

“We’re trying to make sure that we don’t have a serial killer on our hands. It very possibly could be what we have.”

They are using a backhoe to uncover evidence, and so far, some has been found, but nothing further has been revealed at this point.

“Just ask God to take that scene out of their mind. And yeah, this is exactly what you read in books.”

Kohlhepp is scheduled for a court hearing at the magistrate’s office on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
