Child Sex Offender Richard Arrowsmith Admits To Collecting 137,000 Child Porn Photos, Spared Jail To Start A Family [Video]

Richard Arrowsmith, a British child sex offender, pleaded guilty to possessing at least 137,000 child porn images and over 4,000 child porn videos earlier this year. Arrowsmith, 41, faced a possible sentence of five years in prison for admitting ownership of the child porn files that he had reportedly been collecting for more than four years. However, because he told the court that he wanted to start a family, he was given a slap on the wrist sentence that has left a nation and the world outraged.

As Yahoo News reports, child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith was originally arrested for his extensive collection of child porn back in February. That was when the admitted child porn watcher was picked up on police radar via a tip that he had downloaded illegal and offensive child porn images and videos using his Sky account.

In April, Richard Arrowsmith’s electronic devices were taken by investigators as evidence. These devices included a computer, a cell phone, his hard drive, and multiple external storage USB drives. Shortly thereafter, the Church Gresley child sex offender quietly avoided a highly-publicized trial by pleading guilty to the charges that had been levied against him. Those child sex abuse charges were related to having indecent images of minor children.

According to investigators into the case of admitted child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith, the depravity of the child porn images was no small thing. They were not simply photos and videos of children in the nude. Rather, police who handled the case, which was heard at Derby Crown Court, say that roughly 400 of the child porn images possessed by Richard Arrowsmith fell into Category A. Those are the most explicit and extreme child porn images categorized by the United Kingdom.

Of the videos possessed by child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith, nearly 1,700 were classified as being from Category A to C. Child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith pleaded guilty to having collected them for nearly four years and having them in his possession when he was finally busted.

Despite pleading guilty to possessing some of the most offensive and extreme child porn images imaginable, and in quantities that totaled at least 137,000 — not including the nearly 4,000 child porn videos child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith also admitted collecting — Arrowsmith was granted unimaginable and potentially disastrous leniency when it came to his sentencing.

A judge decided that his lack of prior arrests, supportive wife, and (perhaps most disturbing, considering the fact that he pleaded guilty to being a child sex offender and child porn connoisseur) and desire to start a family were compelling enough reasons to spare confessed child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith a proper and fitting prison sentence. Instead of sentencing the child sex offender to prison, Recorder Martin Butterworth opted for a much lighter, much more offensive (to the general public) sentence.

Indeed, as the Daily Mail reports, Butterworth was incredibly light-handed when it came to punishing child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith for his disgusting and unforgivable crimes against children. In addition, the reason he cited for his leniency has left a bad taste in the mouth of many following the disturbing child porn case.

“You are 41 years old, with no previous convictions and you pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. There are three charges against you in relation to the possession of indecent images of children. I am taking into consideration your previous good character, you have a wife who supports you, a steady employment and your hopes to start a family in the near future.”

While Recorder Martin Butterworth continued to talk about the crimes committed by child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith, he spoke to the court about the victims of child porn. Young children subjected to serious abuse not just by the people making the child porn, but for the benefit of those who wish to view it. The recorder also spoke in open court about Richard Arrowsmith’s initial dishonesty when it came to the nature of the over 100,000 child porn images in his extensive, abusive, and subjugating collection.

Ultimately, admitted child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith was sentenced to 10 months in jail — suspended. That means he won’t see the inside of a cell, provided he meets the other terms of his incredibly light sentence for his incredibly unthinkable crimes against children.

The child sex offender was also ordered to pay a meager fine to the tune of £250, to do 160 hours of community service, and to be subjected to a curfew. The rules of that curfew prohibit Richard Arrowsmith from leaving home for 10 hours each day, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Further, admitted child sex offender Richard Arrowsmith must also officially register as the sex offender that he pleaded guilty to being.

Despite also being restricted from working with children, it appears that the court was supportive of the idea of sex offender Richard Arrowsmith having a few little ones of his own, as his desire to “start a family” with his “supportive wife” were integral to his offensively light sentence for such an unthinkable crime.
