Salma Hayek: I’m Dyslexic, Short, Chubby, And The Luckiest Actress In Hollywood

Salma Hayek isn’t perfect, but she may be the luckiest actress in Hollywood.

The Savages actress admitted that she has plenty of shortcomings and is surprised that she’s gotten any work in the movie business.

Hayek said:

“I have an accent, am dyslexic, short and chubby … You name it, I have it, but I am here. I must be the luckiest girl in the world to be working.”

The actress recently sat down with Bazaar UK to talk about being a woman in Hollywood. The industry is known for putting pressure on women to be skinny (Christina Aguilera was reportedly told to lose weight throughout her career), but Hayek said that she’s never caved to the pressure.

The Oscar nominated actress said that she loves food and wine and has no plans on giving them up.

Hayek said:

“I am on the limit of chubbiness because I love my food and my wine … It’s not the best for fashion, but it’s good for my mood. I am happy because I eat…. The truth is I just don’t have the drive to be the prettiest and the thinnest. I can be happy for other people for their beauty. Learn to be happy for others, and you can never run out of happiness.”

Hayek may not try to be the prettiest woman in the world, but she does frequently make People’s Most Beautiful People In The World list. According to IMBD, she made the most beautiful list from 1996 and 2003.

But, despite her beauty, Hayek says that it’s still hard being an actress in Hollywood over the age of 40.

Hayek said:

“The worst thing you can be in Hollywood is a woman and over 40 … I am 46; I will not have Botox. You know why? I don’t need to do it because I eat! I eat the fat, I eat the vegetables, I eat everything. If you exercise too much and you don’t eat enough, it takes its toll on the skin. Everything starts aging. If you don’t eat carbs, you slow your metabolism down. And you know what? You look miserable.”
