(Welterweight) CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall
Two matches from this exciting card are on everyone’s radar for Saturday night. They are the heavyweight match for the title, and CM Punk versus Mickey Gall. Gall is 2-0 in the sport, and Punk is 0-0. Record wise, this is about as evenly matched as you can get. CM Punk spent over 15 years in professional wrestling and gained worldwide fame in the WWE.
Fox Sports 1 recently aired a four-part documentary on Punk covering his transition to MMA and the training that he has undergone. From footage seen in the last part of the series, it definitely looks like both Punk and Gall are prepared.
In an interview reported yesterday by Sports Illustrated, CM Punk expounded on UFC 203.
“I’m a polarizing person, so people get caught up in hoping I fail. And just like success, failure is a perspective. If I go out there and lose a split decision, then I lost the fight. But did I fail? I don’t know. Everybody has a different perspective.”
“Winning is different based on your perspective, just like success is different based on your perspective. I’m not sure how often I win at things. To me, just doing this is winning. I don’t think about shocking the world or changing everybody’s mind, but I just think about going out there and doing what I was taught to do and showing people that, if you want to do something, then work hard at it and it can be done.”
UFC Heavyweight Championship
Stipe Miocic (Champion) vs. Alistair Overeem
It’s home-sweet-home for champion Miocic as he fights in his native town of Cleveland Saturday night in the main event of this thrilling card. He will have his plate full as he takes on Alistair Overeem. Miocic is only slightly favored in this contest, according to the Vegas sports books, and many believe there will be a new champion by the end of Saturday night. As Sportsrageous reported, Stipe gave his thoughts on his title defense at UFC 203.
“I’ve worked too hard to get here for this guy to take it away from me. When it comes next Saturday, the 10th, I’m going to beat the crap out of him and win this fight. He [Overeem] is a hungry wolf. I’m a starving wolf. I want it way more than he does…. Even though I got the belt, I still want it more.”
