Oklahoma City Woman Allegedly Kills ‘Possessed’ Daughter By Forcing Crucifix Down Her Throat

A God-fearing woman from Oklahoma City reportedly ended her adult daughter’s life after believing that she was possessed by Satan.

The body of 33-year-old Geneva Gomez was discovered inside the home of her mother, Juanita Gomez, 49, on August 27 after a wellness check was requested by an unknown party, so says AOL News. As stated in court documents, when law enforcement entered the residence, they found Geneva lying on the floor, dead, with a large crucifix on her chest. Juanita would allegedly go on to admit that after physically assaulting Gomez with her fists, she then forcefully shoved a religious medallion and the crucifix down Geneva’s throat because she was trying to rid her child of the devil.

“Blood was visible, and she had suffered severe trauma around her head and face,” the documents went on to say.

Bruises that were found on Geneva’s arms and swelling, most noticeably, around her knuckles were said to have come from an altercation between her and her mother that took place before her death. As she began coughing up blood from the lodging of the crucifix, Juanita watched on as her daughter slowly perished before placing Geneva’s arms in a horizontal position to fashion her body in the way of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, according to court documents.

Following her arrest, Juanita revealed that she never meant to kill her child, who had come by for a visit earlier that day, but instead, only wanted to rid her of demons that had somehow taken over her body. A report from KFOR-TV claims that at some time during their interaction that day, Geneva “growled” at her mother, which made Juanita believe that she had been possessed.

She now faces charges of first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond. Gomez’s first court appearance was set for Tuesday, August 30.

In a related story, a young woman from Ellenville, NY, is also facing similar charges for killing her mother in what she claims was an effect of her late parent’s heavy interest in witchcraft.

Sarra Gilbert, 27, is facing a second-degree murder rap for the stabbing death of Mari Gilbert in her apartment back in July. As reported by the Times-Herald Record, Gilbert was said to have hit her 52-year-old mother in the back of the head with a fire extinguisher before striking Mari with a 15-inch kitchen knife several times. According to her lawyer, John Ray, Sarra was traumatized from witnessing her mother engage in “dark arts” for more than a decade.

“She believes that her mother was possessed by a demon,” Ray stated to the judge overlooking the case on August 12. “She believes that there are reasons why she did what she did, which have to do with witchcraft. The influence and effect that that psychotic kind of practice had on this poor girl.”

Gilbert, a known schizophrenic who was out on bail for a previous animal cruelty charge at the time of the murder, allegedly suffered from “terrible delusions” regarding witches and demons, which Ray claimed led to the brutal act. He then requested the judge drop the charges due to her being criminally insane, and instead, relegate her to a mental hospital for long-term treatment.

“[She should] not have been out on the street,” he remarked, adding that Sarra had been in 10 hospitals over the past three years due to her schizophrenia. “She’s been treated and let go again and again by public hospitals here without treatment when she was clearly dangerous.”

Sarra has pleaded not guilty to the killing of her mother, as well as the animal cruelty and a child endangerment charge, where she was said to have killed a puppy named Princess in front of her young son. She is due back in court on September 9.
