WWE News: Why A Double-Turn Could Lead To A Safer In-Ring Style For Seth Rollins

The WWE has a huge opportunity with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in the coming weeks in WWE television. Before that’s talked about, let’s first analyze how each of them got to this point. Coming up on Monday Night Raw, Rollins, Reigns, Big Cass, and Kevin Owens are fighting for the WWE Universal championship, one that Finn Balor has to relinquish after Rollins hurt the former-WWE NXT champion at SummerSlam.

Rollins had a predictable road to WWE Raw this coming week. He returned from injury and immediately fought for the WWE championship in a triple threat match with Dean Ambrose and Reigns. “The Man” didn’t get the job done and was granted a rematch for the new championship on the red brand. Rollins lost that too to the Demon King in a great match at SummerSlam. If it weren’t for a bad Buckle Bomb by Rollins, Balor would still be the champion and none of this would be happening.

The Demon King is out for four to six months and Rollins has himself another championship match. As for Roman Reigns, his journey to this big match was unorthodox. After the push of a lifetime, he sizzled out and even lost clean two weeks in a row to Ambrose and Balor. Since then, the three-time WWE champion entered a feud with Rusev and earned himself more fans in the process. That was, until SummerSlam. There wasn’t even a match. It was a cheap way to make Reigns look strong.

Rollins and Reigns are set to meet again and they are clearly the favorites to win the match. That isn’t intended to disrespect Owens or Cass, but those two as champion wouldn’t make sense in a storyline right now. If one of the two former-Shield members wins the WWE Universal championship, it will open up a slew of options in the next several months. According to a report by Daily Wrestling News, a double-turn at a WWE pay-per-view could be in the works.

“Vince wanted to book Reigns for a short program with WWE United States Champion Rusev as a way for Reigns to work his way back up the ladder, to prove himself and to try once again to get fans behind him. However, plans are once again up in the air due to Finn Balor’s injury and it will be interesting to see if they get back on-board with the Reigns mega-push.”

“On a related note, there’s been talk of doing a major double turn with Reigns and Seth Rollins before the year is over.”

Like it’s mentioned above, if Finn Balor never got hurt, the initial plans were for him to face Kevin Owens at Clash of Champions, the first-Raw exclusive pay-per-view in September. It all comes back to Rollins’ reckless style of wrestling. If the Buckle Bomb was executed properly, none of this would have happened. In four years of Rollins on the main roster, he’s injured three WWE superstars.

Last year, Rollins retired Sting when he utilized the Buckle Bomb in the ring. Sting’s neck snapped backwards, causing him to never wrestle again. Months later, Rollins was in his feud with John Cena. During a match, Rollins went for a flying knee and hit Cena stiff in the nose. It was broken and he had to miss some time at a crucial point in WWE programming.

Balor is the most recent wrestler to succumb to Rollins in a WWE ring. Whether they are all his fault or not, a face turn may be the best thing to happen to Rollins. He can slow down his style and not be so aggressive. Bret Hart, WWE Hall of Famer, thinks there’s no excuse for it.

Reigns is the aggressor anyway, so it would fit perfectly. Plus, WWE Raw has quickly lost momentum. They need to make a change somewhere. WWE officials had to scramble to make last week happen. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen again.
