‘Fear The Walking Dead’: When Will Everyone Reunite? Expect A Slow Burn As Some Characters May Not Cross Paths Until Season 3

Technically it has only been one episode since the core characters in AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead split, but already fans are wondering when they will get back together — or if they will at all. According to Fear‘s showrunner, it will happen between at least two groups, but not for some time yet.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses Season 2 and 3 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

The mid-season finale of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead saw the core characters split up into three groups. Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) chose to travel alone in his search for people who had the same beliefs as Celia Flores (Marlene Forte). Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) travels with his son, Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie), who is not coping well with the zombie apocalypse and is best kept away from people at the moment. The third, and largest, group is that belonging to Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), Madison (Kim Dickens), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason).

In Fear‘s companion show, The Walking Dead, a similar situation happened after the prison was abandoned. However, these groups were actively seeking out each other in an effort to regroup. The characters in Fear the Walking Dead, with the exception of Madison looking for her son, are not really searching out each other with the intent of rejoining. So, how long will these groups stay separated then?

Fear‘s showrunner, Dave Erickson, recently did an interview with TVLine that suggested that at least two of these groups will meet up again. However, as is to be expected with the slow burn of Fear the Walking Dead, this reunion will not happen quickly.

“It’s a fractured family by the end of [the mid-season finale], and part of the challenge in the back half [of Season 2] is to see how and when they start to come together again. Some of it happens in the back half of Season 2, and some of it will spill over into Season 3.”

According to Erickson, Madison will reunite with her partner, Travis, by the end of the season. However, it will be a complicated reunion as both characters will be in much different places, emotionally speaking. Erickson does suggest that this will eventually be a good thing for the couple, and it just may make their bond even stronger moving forward in Fear the Walking Dead.

Before Travis and Madison reunite though, Madison will be challenged with her developing relationship with Strand, and Travis will have to deal with his son, Chris. As the actor who plays Chris, Lorenzo James Henrie, pointed out in an interview with Digital Trends, Travis will have to work towards supporting his son in the Season 2 return of Fear the Walking Dead, whereas, previously, Travis has supported Madison’s son, Nick. This will certainly help to change Travis. And, if a certain theory on Uproxx is right, Travis may have to even put his son down rather than have him become more ruthless in his behavior. And this will certainly lead Travis to a darker place, emotionally, when he meets up with Madison again.

As for the other groups, it seems like paths will definitely begin to cross again more in Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead, according to Dave Erickson. Although, he didn’t specify who would cross paths, it does suggest the three groups will have at least minor encounters with each other in Season 3.
