Blake Shelton Makes Shocking Admission About Gwen Stefani Songs, Stars In ‘The Voice’ Promo With Adam Levine

Blake Shelton didn’t do his research on The Voice coach Gwen Stefani when she joined Season 7 of the NBC singing competition in 2014.

During his recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Blake Shelton made it obvious that he doesn’t listen to his fellow Voice coaches’ music to find out more about competition. He and Gwen have been dating since last November, but Blake confessed that he’s still learning his girlfriend’s music catalog. However, he’s discovering that he has heard a lot more of Gwen Stefani and No Doubt’s music than he realizes, and he’s surprised whenever he finds out that Gwen is the artist singing some of the big hits that he recognizes.

“I remember like a month ago when she flew into Oklahoma and I was driving to pick her up at the airport and I was flipping through XM radio and I stopped on this song and I was like, ‘That voice sounds like Gwen. Why don’t I know this?’ and it’s a song called ‘It’s My Life’ which is like a huge record for them [No Doubt]. And I’m going, ‘I didn’t know Gwen sang that song!'” Blake Shelton recounted, according to InStyle.

Blake also revealed that he was unaware that “Hey Baby” was a No Doubt song until recently. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the country star knew the song, but he thought that it was a TLC tune.

“Two months ago, ‘Hey Baby’ came on the radio and Gwen said something like, ‘Oh that’s wild. I haven’t heard that in a while.’ And she said, ‘You know, we won a GRAMMY for this song.’ And I said, ‘That’s y’all?! That’s you?!’ Because I literally thought that was like TLC!”

Blake Shelton must be a pretty massive “Hey Baby” fan because he was ecstatic to learn that he had locked lips with the iconic red mouth that sings the upbeat tune.

“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s you and we’ve kissed!'” Shelton recalled during his sit-down with Seth Meyers.

Blake Shelton hasn’t revealed whether his realization that he’s sort of clueless about Gwen Stefani’s music has inspired him to do a little more research on the music of the two new coaches joining The Voice this season, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. As E! News reports, NBC recently released the first promo for Season 11 of the reality show, and someone actually convinced Blake to suit up for the video. Back in May, the “Came Here to Forget” singer told People that he hates wearing a suit and tie because he’s afraid that fitted clothing makes his “man boobs” and gut more visible. However, he’s a sharp-dressed man in The Voice promo below.

Blake Shelton told E! News that the promo is inspired by Men in Black. He and Adam Levine are obviously the MIB agents, but Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys’ faces don’t make an appearance in the ad. However, there are flashes of sparkly outfits and high heels that definitely don’t belong to Levine or Shelton, and Blake hinted that the new female coaches may play larger roles in a future promo.

“Alicia and Miley come in and there’s a new order. Somebody has taken over the world and Adam and I just trying to find our way these days.”

Season 11 of The Voice officially premieres Monday, September 19 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, but you can meet the new judges during a Voice Olympics special that will air August 21.

Many Stefani fans were disappointed to find out that Gwen Stefani wouldn’t be returning as a coach for Season 11 of The Voice, but there’s still hope that she and Blake will compete against each other on a future season of the show. At the Television Critics Association press tour, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt described Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams as members of the show’s “revolving family.” Entertainment Tonight reports that Greenblatt called Blake Shelton and Adam Levine “the pillars of the show,” which suggests that they won’t be replaced as long as The Voice is on the air.

During an interview with 107.9 The Link’s Matt and and Ramona, Gwen talked about the possibility of returning to The Voice.

“Can everyone just pray for me that I get The Voice again?” Gwen said. “Because I just love that show so much.”
