Lil Boosie recently sat down to discuss his experience dealing with his hometown, and during the interview, Boosie gave serious advice you could apply to your own life.

As you may know, Lil Boosie had experienced unfavorable situations in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. So, after Boosie served his prison sentence — instead of continuing his residency in Baton Rouge — the rapper chose to move away to Atlanta, Georgia, for specific reasons. He states that he’d “never” move back to his hometown.

During an interview with VladTV, Lil Boosie lays out the specifics of the situation. You can watch the interview for yourself above. However, here are five brief takeaways from Boosie’s interview that could possibly help save your life one day.

1. Sometimes, there are snakes in your garden.

Lil Boosie says that he has experienced it all. This includes having his friends turn into “frienemies.” According to Boosie, he has encountered people who were his closest friends in middle school, and further, who turned on him over the years.

Lil Boosie says that he used to be close with two friends — even considering them his “best.” However, one of them is currently holding a murder charge for the other’s life. Boosie mentions that everyone in your close network isn’t always there for the good of the group.

He compared his situation to the betrayal in Paid in Full, as noted on Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

2. When you “come up,” be careful who you discuss.

According to Lil Boosie, he made “foolish” decisions prior to his prison sentence. Moreover, those decisions involved name dropping enemies who were already envious of Boosie’s lifestyle. During the interview, he mentions that he was living higher than certain Baton Rouge city officials and authorities, and by calling them out via his music, Lil Boosie quickly found out that money couldn’t always handle the situation.

Although Lil Boosie repped his hometown, it didn’t matter in the courtroom. The Baton Rouge native says that his team spent millions on the case, and they still sent him to jail in the end.

The Guardian reports that after Boosie’s release, he mentioned that “prison is not a place for humans” but is an “animal house.” And his hometown sent him there, regardless.

So, when you know there are people watching and waiting for you to make mistakes, it’s wise to do as Lil Boosie advises and disassociate yourself from those particular individuals.

3. Success makes you a target.

Regardless of your personal avoidance, Lil Boosie also says that your success will automatically make you a target in your hometown. Continuing on his thoughts concerning envy and deceit, Boosie elaborates that certain people will tire of seeing your success — knowing that you’ve surpassed them by such a large margin.

Lil Boosie says that, after a while, they develop evil in their hearts toward you and wish for your downfall. However, when that failure doesn’t happen — depending on the person and the amount of animosity — he or she might take things into his or her own hands.

Likewise, Lil Boosie emphasizes that most rappers are killed in their own hometowns.

“What I’m speaking is fact. Those are the guys that would want to hurt you — those guys who have been looking at you your whole life and building up envy. They can’t stop you from getting money. You don’t want to be their friend or associate. You can’t come in their crew and get any kind of money. They’re too big for you to even try to beef with. So, you know what, ‘I’ll just take your life.'”

Lil Boosie further mentions that is how those crooks look at it. The only way to stop you is to get rid of you, according to Boosie.

4. Wherever you’re from, that’s where you’ll be hated the most.

Boosie starts this particular sector of the discussion by bringing up Birdman, Master P, Lil Wayne, etc. He mentions that they didn’t leave Louisiana because they were “above” being there any longer. The Baton Rouge rapper emphasizes that these celebrity artists had to leave for the safety of their own families. Lil Boosie says the following statements regarding the type of hatred they’ve all encountered daily since attaining success.

“People are going to hate you in your city. I advise ‘everyone’, when they get money, get out they city. ‘Cause that’s [from] where the hatred ‘gon come. That’s how I was at first. ‘N***as ain’t running me. I ain’t going nowhere. I’m Boosie. I don’t back down from nothing… Now, it’s not about me backing down. It’s about me being smart. It’s about being here for your kids.”

If Christianity serves correct, wasn’t Jesus treated similarly in his hometown? According to Bible.org, Jesus had to go elsewhere to be appreciated. Lil Boosie makes the same point during his interview. He had to leave Louisiana and surround himself with those who would appreciate him. Boosie mentions that he’ll always represent his hometown. However, moving back is not an option.

5. They’ll only appreciate you as long as you’re doing “okay.”

According to Lil Boosie’s VladTV interview, as long as you have one song doing well, they’ll show you love. However, when you’re the trend and constant talk of the town, they’ll get tired of hearing about your success, especially when these particular people would want your spot in your hometown.

While you’re successful, jealousy and envy would cause people to “try” you, says Lil Boosie. They want to make a name for themselves off having a beef with you, especially since you’re what’s trending. You can see a similar animosity happening with Tory Lanez concerning Drake.

As Boosie has mentioned, dissociating or not responding is the best thing to do; Drake hasn’t responded to Lanez’s instigation, though both hold Toronto, Canada as their hometown. Does it appear that Tory wants Drake’s spot as Lil Boosie mentions in his own situation?
