Whilst announcing the suspension of his presidential run, failed Republican candidate Ted Cruz has elbowed his wife Heidi in the face. The race for the Republican nomination has already seen plenty of candidates bow out, however, Ted Cruz’s exit by giving his wife a punch in the nose and elbow in the face was undeniably the most awkward. It’s difficult to see how Ted Cruz managed to elbow Heidi Cruz in the face, already knowing she was there.

According to Gawker, shortly after hugging Heidi on stage, Ted Cruz managed to turn around, punch his wife in the nose, and elbow her in the face. It was an uncomfortable end to what has been what many have called an incredibly uncomfortable campaign from Ted Cruz.

As reported by Mashable, Ted Cruz was joined by his father, Rafael Cruz, and wife, Heidi Cruz while announcing that he’d be bringing his presidential campaign to an end. Whilst the moment was undeniably an incredibly disheartening one for supporters of Ted Cruz, it was a moment made worse by another in an embarrassing series of gaffes for the senator, who has struggled to make any form of traction in his presidential campaign. It remains to be seen whether or not Heidi Cruz was hurt as a result of the blow to the face she received from her husband, but she appeared to soldier on regardless.

Ted Cruz’s campaign is no stranger to embarrassing gaffes, however. According to The Inquistr, earlier this week, whilst campaigning in Indiana, Ted Cruz’s vice presidential candidate, Carly Fiorina fell off the stage. Fiorina herself was introduced in a bid to spark some life within the campaign. However, that’s a gamble that clearly hasn’t paid off, with Ted Cruz recently pulling out of the race following a crushing defeat at the hands of Donald Trump in Indiana.

All of the above took place during Ted Cruz’s final campaign speech, where he announced that he’d be quitting the 2016 presidential race. Cruz claimed that his departure came following a crushing defeat in Indiana, where Donald Trump took all 51 delegates, leaving Ted Cruz with nothing. Following the defeat, it was difficult to see how Ted Cruz could have managed to continue his campaign, but the departure now appears to have given Donald Trump a clear path to the Republican nomination, providing the party establishment doesn’t plan on over-ruling that nomination at the Republican National Convention when it meets this July.

The longevity of Ted Cruz’s campaign has been doubtful for a good while now, whilst Donald Trump has managed to consistently pick up states in the Republican nomination process, Ted Cruz has found his support largely spread thinly. That’s something he tried to fix when very recently announcing Carly Fiorina, once a candidate in the race herself, as his potential running mate. However, it’s an announcement that had very little impact on Ted Cruz’s campaign, with the senator from Texas forced to pull out on Tuesday, with no clear path ahead of him.

Many will see the way in which Ted Cruz departed from the race for the Republican nomination as quite apt considering the various gaffes of his campaign so far. Whilst Heidi Cruz receiving a punch in the nose and elbow in the face from her husband may be fairly comical to the majority, supporters of Ted Cruz were quite clearly disappointed by their candidate’s decision to withdraw from the race.

What’s next for Ted Cruz is pretty unclear. He has come further than most candidates in this race, but considering how vocal he has been in opposition to Donald Trump, an endorsement is very unlikely at current.
