The Desert Trip festival is a done deal. The “Coachella of Classic Rock” is set to take place this October and it will feature a lineup of classic rock icons that haven’t been on the same bill since…ever. The Desert Trip classic rock festival will include The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Roger Waters, and The Who, and it will take place October 7-9 on the Coachella and Stagecoach grounds at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The Desert Trip festival has been teased for weeks after several bands posted cryptic hints via teaser videos to social media. The Rolling Stones posted a promo clip with their song “All Down the Line,” while Rogers posted a video featuring the Pink Floyd song “Brain Damage,” and Dylan’s teaser featured his song “Ballad of a Thin Man.” All of the rockers’ messages featured the word “October,” so fans knew something big was in the works for this fall.

Now, the pieces to the puzzle have finally been put together as some of the greatest rock giants of all time team up for a mega concert which will feature full sets by each headlining band. The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan will kick off the event on Friday night, while Paul McCartney and Neil Young (with the band Promise of the Real) take the stage on Saturday. The three-day event will wrap up on Sunday, October 9, with performances by the Who and Roger Waters.

Concert promoter Paul Tollett, the man behind Coachella, told Rolling Stone that he wanted to top his past concert events, so he came up with the idea to curate a show that consisted of “rock and roll bands that have been playing consistently since the early days.” Tollett also revealed that his Desert Trip wish list was made two years ago and that it only consisted of these six acts. If any had turned the show down, Desert Trip wouldn’t be happening. The Who frontman, Roger Waters, described the six Desert Trip acts as “the greatest remains of our era.”

Of course, this is big budget business, and according to Billboard, the top headliners on the Desert Trip festival bill are guaranteed up to $7 million each (Tollett has only confirmed that the performers are “all getting what they’re worth”), so it’s not hard to see why these iconic old school rockers have signed on for the event. While the initial three-day concert hasn’t even taken place yet, there is already buzz about a second Desert Trip weekend.

The Desert Trip festival is the biggest classic rock festival in recent years and, unlike past events like Live Aid and Live 8, it’s not a benefit show, just a straight up ticketed event. All of the names on the Desert Trip festival lineup are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A few of the Desert Trip acts have headlined past rock festivals, including Roger Waters, who played Pink Floyd’s entire Dark Side of the Moon album for Coachella fans in 2008, and Paul McCartney, who played the opening day of Coachella in 2009. And some of the bands on the lineup have even gone on farewell tours. But the Desert Trip festival proves that there is no such thing as retirement for a classic rock star.

The Desert Trip performers will each hit the stage after sunset on each night of the festival. Single day Desert Trip tickets start at $199, and three-day ticket packages start at $399, with higher-priced reserved and grandstand tickets also available. Desert Trip tickets go on sale beginning Monday, May 9, at deserttrip.com.
