Ellie Goulding Releases New Single “Anything Could Happen”

Ellie Goulding just released “Anything Could Happen,” the first single off her upcoming CD Halcyon. Goulding uploaded the video to her YouTube account, and premiered the song on BBC Radio 1.

The 25-year-old singer revealed the new single through a lyric video composed of fan-submitted Instagram photos.

Goulding released her debut album Lights in 2010. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 there. She performed her cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding reception on April 29, 2011 at Buckingham Palace.

The single “Lights” was released in 2011 in the US, but has recently enjoyed renewed success on radios across the country. Goulding told 97.1 AMP/Los Angeles,

“I heard [‘Lights’] for the first time on the radio the other day. Yeah, for the first time! I’ve heard it a lot already. I don’t know. It’s very bizarre. It’s cool.”

Goulding attributed “Lights” success in the US to its electronic remix. The song has peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

Halcyon will be released October 8 in the UK and October 9 in the US. Goulding said of the new album,

“[Halycon is] a bird that during the winter, it would lay its eggs by the sea and bring calm to the stormy waters. A lot of my songs on this [new] record are about the ocean and water.”

Goulding told Billboard.com,

“There was no intention of, ‘Let’s make the first single. This was fun because [Jim Elliot’s] a really experienced, clever producer, but he acts like a child, like me. We’re both like little kids just wanting to create sounds… that’s how ‘Anything Can Happen’ started. It’s quite childlike and quite innocent.”
