Erin Andrews Talks Backstage Heat During ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Premiere

Fans of Dancing With the Stars know that there’s plenty of heat during those sultry dances in the ballroom. But Erin Andrews discovered during last week’s premiere episode that sometimes the temperature can rise backstage as well. In a blog for People, the show’s sideline host and Fox Sports commentator revealed the process of getting her glammed up for the live broadcast often leads to some behind-the-scenes chaos. As prep was underway for the debut of Season 22, the air conditioning went out, leaving Andrews among those feeling the heat.

“It always gets a little warm in my dressing room: We have curling irons, hair dryers, clothing steamers, etc. all turned on. Unfortunately, today, my air conditioning wasn’t working an hour before the show. My team was trying to get me prepped and in a dress while I was sweating my hair and makeup right off.”

But as fate would have it, the cooling system started working before showtime and the fans at home were none the wiser. Andrews hit the set with a well-crafted look due to the efforts of a top-notch makeup, hair, and costume team. It was the choice of producers to have an all-black formal look, which was contrasted with a messy hairstyle.

Andrews told People she feels particularly at home this season because of the number of football players on the program. Athletes are usually in the mix on Dancing With the Stars, but this year there are three NFL players out of the 12 celebrity contestants: Doug Flutie, Von Miller, and Antonio Brown. It’s not just that her sports job is colliding with her entertainment job on stage: fans will spot some familiar faces in the audience as well.

“I’m thrilled we have Antonio Brown and Von Miller on our show this season. And I’m even more excited because all their teammates are joining us each week to cheer them on. I was star struck seeing all the players in the ballroom. It made me very excited for football to start back up.”

Andrews was spreading her NFL love all over social media, posing with Miller and Brown on her Instagram page. She used the hashtag “#mynormal.”

It’s still early in the season, but so far Andrews’ beloved football players have pulled off solid scores. Brown and Miller are two of the four celebrities — Marla Maples and Paige VanZant are the other two — tied for second place, behind top-ranked Ginger Zee, Nyle DiMarco, and Wanya Morris, all tied for first. Doug Flutie is currently ranked second to the last based on the judges’ scores, just ahead of journalist Geraldo Rivera. Actress Mischa Barton is third from last and former child stars Jodie Sweetin and Kim Fields are both in the middle of the pack.

Monday night is Latin night on Dancing With the Stars, so fans can expect plenty of heat on the dance floor — this time between the celebrities and their pro partners.

Andrews will be back on set alongside host Tom Bergeron to watch it all happen. The next episode of Dancing With the Stars airs Monday night at 8 p.m. on ABC. It will likely feature the first elimination of the season, with Barton, Rivera, and Flutie possibly in danger of ending their DWTS journey.
