Jodie Sweetin Goes From ‘Fuller House’ To ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Jodie Sweetin came into Dancing With the Stars as a former child star who has recently returned to the screen. While audiences may be reintroduced to Sweetin as part of the Tanner clan on Fuller House, she’s working hard to bring her steps up to speed on the notoriously brutal ballroom dance competition. But as Sweetin told Us Weekly earlier this week, she’s gotten some valuable support from her boyfriend, Justin Hodak, who advised her to resist the temptation to compare herself to the show’s professional dancers.

“We were in rehearsal and I said, ‘I want to look like Witney [Carson]! Or Peta [Murgatroyd]!’ And he was like, ‘Babe, they’ve been doing this for 22 years, the fact that you’re doing what you’re doing is amazing!’ So I had to take a step back and say, ‘Oh, OK!’ I’m hard on myself and I have high expectations. I love it, so I want it to look just right. I’m a huge fan of dance and ballroom dance, so I look at it and I say, ‘I want that!’ I’m willing to work hard to get it.”

Sweetin’s first night out was a successful one, as she and her partner Keo Motsepe got a respectable score of 20/30 from the judges. The pair performed an intense tango, after a recorded package that both poked fun at Sweetin’s Full House roots and showed her expressing a desire to start over at age 34. Self praised the performance and called Sweetin’s pre-performance interview “heart-tugging.”

Sweetin is not the only Full House alum to grace the Dancing With the Stars stage. Candace Cameron Bure made the top 3 in Season 18. As Us reported, she imparted some advice to her Fuller House co-star. Since Bure tended to “freak out” during the Monday night performance shows, she told her on-screen sister to just enjoy the experience.

Sweetin told E! Online that Bure was texting her during the show and telling Sweetin to “go kill it,” and “I love you.” She also revealed that Andrea Barber, who plays Kimmie Gibler, was expected to be in the Dancing With the Stars audience next Monday. Barber’s on-screen partner, Juan Pablo Di Pace, was on hand for the premiere episode.

Bure and Sweetin, in addition to filming the 13 episodes of Fuller House for Netflix, will be spending more time on the recreated Full House set. The show has been renewed for another season, so there is plenty more Tanner family fun on the way. Variety reported that the initial reboot brought back all of the original cast with the exception of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who played Michelle Tanner on the first series.

Jeff Franklin, who was responsible for both Full House and Fuller House, said the Olsen twins would always be welcome to come back to the show, joking that “only one” was needed. Sweetin, meanwhile, took to social media to confirm her participation in the next installment.

Sweetin also posted about Monday’s Latin night on Dancing With the Stars, making fun of the set decorations consistent with that night’s theme.

Dancing With the Stars airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC.
