‘Outlander’ Star Caitriona Balfe Talks Pros And Cons Of Jamie And Frank, Plus Watch The New Teaser

Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) relationship on Outlander is certainly a complex one. Not only does the couple have to deal with all the challenges outside of their relationship, but Claire is also married to another man in the future, Frank (Tobias Menzies). While Claire juggles her feelings between the two men, Balfe recently revealed some of the pros and cons between her two lovers.

According to TV Over Mind, Balfe views her character’s relationship with Jamie and Frank as being completely different. Although the actress believes that Claire truly loves both men, her status with Frank is less than when she’s Jamie.

In fact, Balfe shared how Claire definitely feels as though she’s on unequal footing when it comes to her marriage with Frank. Whenever she’s around Frank, Claire feels more like a girl, while Frank holds the majority of the power. This produces a teacher and student environment where Claire doesn’t feel as empowered as she does with Jamie.

In contrast to Frank, Claire’s relationship with Jamie is much more balanced. This affords Claire a measure of power and responsibility while fostering their love for each other in a healthy way.

Although most fans prefer Claire to stick with Jamie, there is still a lot of love between Claire and Frank. Sadly, Frank loves Claire more, and is forced to stick with her even though she is carrying Jamie’s child.

The upcoming season of Outlander is set to challenge Jamie and Claire’s relationship in new ways. Along with dealing with Jamie’s haunting past, which includes his imprisonment and rape by Black Jack Randall (Menzies), the couple will attempt to change history and prevent the Jacobite Rebellion.

In speaking about Claire’s relationship with Jamie, Balfe shared how she is skeptical that it will ever get easy. In particular, she revealed that the couple will meet new people in the Season 2, some of whom may end up becoming their enemies.

“I don’t think it’s ever going to be smooth sailing with these two,” she stated. “We’re going to meet some very interesting characters who may become the new enemies of Claire and Jamie — one being the Count of St. Germain.”

For his part, Heughan also shared his thoughts on Jamie and Claire’s marriage with Entertainment Tonight. Despite coming off a heated romance in Season 1, Heughan believes their relationship is reaching another level.

“It feels more complex in a way,” Heughan said. “These relationships have developed and our relationship has certainly gone into a new place.”

Meanwhile, Movie Pilot is reporting that Outlander has released another exciting trailer for Season 2. In a clear jab at Game of Thrones, the trailer starts by telling fans to “Forget Winter,” because “Spring is coming.”

The new season of Outlander is based on the second book by Diana Gabaldon, titled Dragonfly in Amber. This time around, Jamie and Claire will travel to Paris, France, and the season will feature quite a jump in time that includes Scotland in 1975 and 19th century France.

Apart from the intro, the trailer featured a few battle shots, presumably the battles of Culloden and Prestopans. Additionally, the clip offered a few quick shots of a brilliant Paris, as well as a look at Count St. German.

According to Carter Matt, titles for a handful of the first episodes has also been released. Although the details concerning the episodes are unknown, the titles hint at what’s to come for Jamie and Claire. The titles include the likes of “Useful Occupations and Deceptions,” “La Dame Blanche,” “Untimely Resurrection,” and “Best Laid Schemes.”

The highly anticipated second season of Outlander is set to debut April 9 on Starz; check out the latest teaser below.
