Kate Middleton: Style For India, What The Duchess May Wear On Her Upcoming Tour

As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge get set to embark on their week-long tour of India, royal watchers are likely antsy to know what chic ensembles Kate might take along to be worn on the trip. The Duchess is certainly a master of recycling some of her favorite pieces, but also likes to throw in variety of new ensembles, so it’s exciting to anticipate what might be her wardrobe of choice for her numerous stops in the exotic locale.

What is known is that Middleton typically sports attire that has meaning to the specific nation she is visiting, as noted by Hello Magazine.

“For her tour of Southeast Asia in 2012, she wore a dress by Singapore-born designer Prabal Gurung for a state dinner hosted by the President of Singapore, she sported Canadian designer Erdem’s creations during her trip to Canada in 2011 and Kate sported a black dress embroidered with silver ferns, the emblem of New Zealand, for her tour of the country in 2014.”

The publication suggests an obvious favorite designer of the young royal who may be represented by the Duchess, seeing as the background of the founder, Saloni Lodha, is of Indian heritage.

“Our first bet is on Saloni, a London-based brand whose founder, Saloni Lodha, was born in India. Just days after the royal was officially announced last year, Kate stepped out for The Fostering Awards wearing an $844 chic blue dress by the fashion house.”

The gorgeous piece by Saloni is the perfect hue to be stepping off a plane at the tour destination. It’s vibrant and accents Kate’s figure just perfectly, so would be a great recycled option for a day while overseas. Perhaps the Duchess will wear a piece by the designer that is a never-before-seen showstopper, however.

Saloni Lodha once spoke about what her brand offers and the inspiration behind most of her pieces.

“I always keep in mind my Indian heritage while designing but don’t translate it literally into our clothes. I think the way we as a brand celebrate bold colours and patterns is our way of bringing the spirit of India into the collections.”

Prince William’s cousin, Princess Beatrice, is also a fan of the Saloni brand. The royal was photographed back in 2013 with the designer at her Fall show. However, a beloved late royal, who travelled to India before her tragic passing, preferred to wear the garments of a different Indian designer.

Princess Diana, deceased mother to Prince William, also made the journey to India. The beauty wore many pieces by well-known Indian designer Ritu Kumar. Hello notes the connection to the trip Middleton and her hubby are set for, noting that the Duchess might very well wear designs of this label.

“The label already has a royal connection close to Kate’s heart – when Princess Diana visited Pakistan in 1997, she visited the Shaumat Memoriam Hospital wearing a traditional Indian outfit by the designer.”

It is, however, also expected that Kate will throw in a few of her own favorite labels that are non-designer, from her native U.K. One such design label is Reiss, a go-to for the Duchess. The brand has a number of gorgeous new spring pieces out just in time for the tour.

Kate’s all time favorite designers are Jenny Peckham and Alexander McQueen, which suggests Middleton will pack a couple showstopper ensembles by each of the said design houses. Kate has rarely been seen on a tour without stepping out in a design by these favorites.

As the International Business Times relays, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will arrive in India by April 10 and are set to leave on April 16. Temperatures will be chillier at this time of year, meaning Middleton’s attire will be altered and impacted based on the chill factor.
