‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Star Olivia Munn Insists She’s Discovered The Fountain Of Youth

Olivia Munn is stirring up quite a buzz with her new, healthier appearance; but, as both fans and critics begin to whisper rumors of plastic surgery, the X-Men: Apocalypse actress just as quickly denies such claims. Instead, Munn attributes her smoother complexion to something she insists is the equivalent of the fabled fountain of youth: Japanese sweet potatoes.

This revelation has come as a surprise and the actress is quick to expound on the virtues of this vegetable, but nutritionists are just as ready to deny the so-called magical properties of the potato.

Olivia Munn Shares Her Philosophy On Beauty And Japanese Sweet Potatoes

In response to questions over her changed appearance, Olivia shared a side-by-side, before and after photos of herself, and she captioned the picture with her response to the rumors. Munn began the lengthy explanation by saying that she likes to research news items and things she finds curious, which was how she came upon the subject of the Japanese sweet potatoes. She added that men shouldn’t corner the market on graceful aging, before giving out her four beauty secrets for keeping a youthful and clear complexion.

Munn’s first rule is to lose weight. She says she kept a regimen of one-hour workouts, while preparing for her X-Men: Apocalypse role. In addition to toning and weight loss, Olivia says regular workouts increase bloodflow to the face.

Her second rule for staying young came from a stylist who suggested reshaping her eyebrows. Olivia said she had previously been shaping her eyebrows in the shape of a frown, but, by restyling them into a happier shape, she was able to brighten and accentuate her eyes.

For her third step, Munn did away with her sunspots and freckles by diligently wiping her face every night with Proactiv Mark Fading Pads. The X-Men: Apocalypse actress said she loves her freckles, but she noticed that they were multiplying under the sun’s exposure, dulling her complexion.

Finally, Munn reveals what she believes to be the real secret to staying young. She says Japanese potatoes high in Hyaluronic Acid are vital to keeping wrinkles away, citing a Connie Chung video as proof of her claim. Olivia points out that Hyaluronic Acid is available in vitamin form, but suggests that getting it straight from the source is the best way to go.

Nutritionists Dispute Olivia Munn’s Claims That Japanese Potatoes Eliminate Wrinkles

Jennifer Levine, a plastic surgeon out of New York City, says that Hyaluronic Acid is beneficial to skin, confirming some of what Munn says. She adds that it’s found in the body, as well as in cosmetics traditionally injected into the skin, but she disagrees with Olivia that it can work wonders against aging.

“The health benefits of consuming these potatoes could be great, but their effect on antiaging would be very small at best. Ingesting the acid would cause it to break down in the digestive system, and it wouldn’t get to areas such as the face in high enough quantities to cause a real difference,” Levine says. “There are no negative effects to someone’s appearance, but no one should expect to see [dramatic] results.”

Levine may be right, but something is working for Olivia Munn. She’s provided the photographic proof herself. Perhaps it’s the power of positive thinking. If Olivia believes these potatoes are reversing the aging process, it could be that they really are working for her. In that way, perhaps Munn really has found her own magic, her own fountain of youth.
