Kesha Fans Plan To Rally As She Cancels University Performance

Fans of popstar Kesha are planning a solidarity rally to show support for the star in lieu of her recent claims that she was sexually abused by producer Dr. Luke.

The rally, set to take place at Loyola University in Chicago, was originally expected to happen ahead of a concert Kesha was scheduled to play on the campus on February 26, although a representative for Kesha just announced that she has cancelled the upcoming gig at the university as her big court battle with Dr. Luke rages on.

Loyola Phoenix announced that Kesha had pulled out of her scheduled performance on February 24, just two days before she was expected to take to the stage at the Illinois university, while Us Weekly is claiming that Kesha has cited “personal reasons” for the show’s cancellation.

But despite Kesha opting not to play the show after a judge denied Kesha’s plea to be released from her recording contract with Sony music last week, Kesha’s fans are still planning to rally in support of the pop star.

Several hundred students are still expected to stage a Kesha rally at Loyola University as a show of solidarity with the “TiK ToK” singer.

In a statement posted on the event’s official Facebook page yesterday, an official spokesperson for the rally wrote that “Kesha’s management cancelled her appearance at Loyola” but noted that “the rally to support Kesha and end rape culture is still on.”

The social media page currently lists more than 500 students as “going” to the Kesha rally, while close to 970 are listed as “interested” in taking part in the show of support.

The event’s description currently reads as follows.

“Recently, a judge ruled that Kesha has to continue to work with her abuser at Sony. Come out to protest rape culture and show your support for Kesha! Wear teal (the official color for sexual violence awareness), and make posters with supportive words (Free Kesha, Solidarity with Kesha, Loyola Loves Kesha, etc.).

The action will take place on the quad just outside Gentile Arena. If you bought tickets to her show, bring the good vibes in with you! However, posters will not be allowed into the concert, as requested by Kesha’s management.

And if you can’t make the concert, there are other ways to show support, especially by making posters for outside Gentile. And please, use the hashtag #loyolawithkesha when posting about this event, or posting articles relevant to Kesha’s court case.”

While Illinois Kesha fans are planning to rally in Chicago, Billboard is reporting that another set of Kesha’s loyal supporters are planning a protest in New York outside Sony headquarters on the same day.

According to the site, the New York Kesha protest will take place outside Sony’s main headquarters in the Big Apple on February 26 and will see protesters demand that Kesha be immediately released from her seemingly iron-clad contract with Sony subsidiary label Kemosabe Records.

“Whether or not Kesha’s music affected someone personally, this case represents the unfair treatment of sexual assault survivors around the globe,” a statement issued to Billboard from Care2 online organizing strategist Lacey Kohlmoos read. “It is important for Sony to see the uproar they have caused, so protesters are bringing it right to their front door.”

Kesha is yet to publicly speak out regarding either planned protest, although the star did take to Facebook on February 24 to thank her fans for their support.

“I’m so, so beyond humbled and thankful for all of the support I’ve received from everyone. Words cannot really express the emotions I’ve gone through reading and seeing how amazing everyone has been to me,” Kesha’s statement read in part, “this issue is bigger than just about me.”
