Gillian Anderson Gets Extraterrestrial In New ‘X-Files’ Finale Teaser

X-Files actress Gillian Anderson looked eerily alien-like in a new teaser for the season finale. Hoping to draw viewers away from the Super Bowl halftime show on CBS, Fox aired a two-and-a-half minute clip showing the beginning of the episode with Anderson narrating as her character, FBI special agent Dana Scully.

Much the same way the reboot’s opening episode featured the narration of Scully’s partner Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, Anderson gets her turn this time around in the new teaser. According to the Wrap, Anderson summarizes series happenings up until now from her point-of-view, reviewing her partnership with Mulder and the investigations they’ve done, her journey from medical school to the X-Files, her cancer scare, and her pregnancy.

In the clip, Anderson says the X-Files “were worthy of Mulder’s investigations, and of mine,” according to Entertainment Weekly. Old photos from past episodes accompany Anderson’s recap.

In character as Scully, Anderson also talks about “a conspiracy of men hiding science for almost 60 years, secrets kept from the American people by a self-interested cabal intent on a consolidation of power both at home and on a predominantly global scale,” Mashable reports. Anderson says their “motives and their final objectives” are unknown.

Anderson mentions the DNA test from the season opener, saying the results show “DNA anomalies that I can only classify as alien.” The appearance of Anderson morphing into an alien at the end of the clip was shocking and shows that testing on her may have left behind alien DNA.

Entertainment Weekly brings up an interesting point, however. Is Anderson’s morphing into an alien the character’s fears playing out, or is it what’s really going to happen?

Video of the episode with Anderson was available on the Fox website, but only for a very short amount of time. The video has been taken down and is now unavailable, although there are already screenshots and gifs circulating around the Internet.

Fans are reacting on Twitter with excitement after watching the clip of Gillian Anderson, using the hashtag #TheXFilesHalftime.

The Inquisitr recently reported that X-Files creator Chris Carter said it felt “like the old days” when the original cast returned to film the series again.

Carter said, “We all hit the ground running. We had so much work to do on that first day that no one had a chance to even recognize that personal, ‘We’re back together after eight years apart.'”

Gillian Anderson has been enthusiastically tweeting about the show leading up to the next episode, and she had tweeted several reminders to watch Fox during the Super Bowl halftime show to see the special clip of the finale.

Show creator Carter has revealed the reboot will end with a cliffhanger and that the show could make another return. The X-Files originally ran from 1993 to 2002.

The fourth episode of the six-episode series revival will air on Monday, February 8, and the series finale is set to air on February 22.
