Super Bowl Audience Startled by ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Commercial, So Close to Real Life!

The Super Bowl event has been jam-packed with amazing performances from Lady Gaga and other artists. There were also big Super Bowl ads like the ones with Amy Schumer, Seth Rogen, and Ronda Rousey. But, the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer was just so close to real life it was a little startling.

20th Century Fox sure knows how to get people’s attention. It was the Super Bowl, Lady Gaga has just finished her chilling performance of the national anthem and here they are at the movie’s Super Bowl event as well.

It did not end with the grave similarities of the live Super Bowl and the movie projection of the Super Bowl. During the last big Super Bowl ad for Independence Day, the narrator even highlighted the event by saying, “Enjoy the Super Bowl, it could be your last.”

The New ‘Independence Day’ Potential

Forbes noted that the movie looked promising. Though it incorporated some CGI content in it, it is not as big as the newly released titles this 2016. It can even be argued that the original Independence Day film helmed by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin could be the better versions since they did not really use that much CGI in the film.

Since this sequel is 20 years in the making, fans are anticipating the comeback of the original casts. It could be Will Smith or Jeff Goldbum or Bill Pullman. However, Will Smith has already confirmed that he will not be joining the new Independence Day: Resurgence. In the storyline, Will Smith’s character died on a test plane crash on April 27, 2007.

Nonetheless, the other big characters decided to come back like Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, and more.

The casts for Independence Day: Resurgence is quite young as they introduce Joey King, Maika Monroe and Liam Hemsworth in the lead roles.

With fresh guys in the crew, 20th Century Fox is trying to lure in the younger audiences for the sequel. Considering that Independence Day was the second biggest-grossing blockbuster in 1996, they are betting on another boom for the sequel.

What’s ‘Independence Day’ Without Will Smith?

Since Will Smith has already confirmed he will not be a part of Independence Day: Resurgence, movie fans were quite disappointed. Bustle noted that though Will Smith has been in tons of amazing movies in the past, none of them were as iconic as his part in Independence Day.

There were no absolute reason why Will Smith was cut out of the casting, but in a 2013 interview with Daily News, Independence Day: Resurgence director Roland Emmerich, he said that Smith was just “too expensive.”

“Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much.We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new.”

In another interview a few years later, the German director somehow contradicted his first statement saying they really wanted to work with Will Smith but he took the offer down.

As for Will Smith, he was equally surprised to know that his character just died. Still, Will Smith said he supports the movie all the way.

“It was terrible when I found out my character died. Roland and I had talked about it. The trailer looks really cool. I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out.”

With everyone’s expectations beginning to rise, people would just have to wait until the June 24 release.
