Sierra Shields: Missing Flight Attendant Last Seen At LaGuardia Airport, New York Search Continues [Video]

The search continues for Sierra Shields, the missing flight attendant who disappeared from LaGuardia airport after suddenly quitting her job with Shuttle America. She also works with an agency called Republic Airways, which provides flight attendants for both Delta and United airlines. Friends and family are organizing an effort called “Find Sierra Shields,” but so far there is very little evidence pointing to what happened to the missing woman.

On January 14, the missing flight attendant met with her supervisor on Thursday, at which time she turned in her resignation. Her family believes she left LaGuardia airport on foot, and it is possible she was wearing her flight attend uniform, which resembles a blue dress. Shields’ phone and wallet have been found at her apartment in Astoria, Queens, but her two roommates are uncertain whether she actually returned to the home at any point. Nothing else appears to be missing.

“Right now, it’s difficult to see what happened when she left the terminal,” said Chris Shields, Sierra’s father. “It’s a real mystery at this point, but we can’t give up.”

Shields is a member of the Connection Church in Queens, and in the past she studied for the ministry, business and integrative studies while at Rochester College from 2005 to 2009. Her pastor, Larry Mayberry, said the missing flight attendant had spoken to his wife earlier in the week, but did not mention anything in passing that would indicate a major life change.

Sierra Shields’ family believes she was depressed in the days before she went missing suddenly. Her father says he clearly remember her demeanor during their last phone conversation.

“When we spoke with her that morning, she seemed pretty preoccupied — distracted. Something was on her mind,” Chris told Dateline. “Then we got disconnected, which is out of character, as anyone who knows Sierra would tell you: She doesn’t hang up on anyone, not even telemarketers.”

As the search continues for the missing flight attendant, the New York Police Department says it is investigating the case, but they cannot reveal much information while looking into leads. The Find Sierra Shields Facebook page is also hoping that people may be able to give tips leading to her location.

“Please help find this beautiful young lady! She is a precious, bubbly, and happy person. She lives her life by God’s word and is such an amazing, helpful, and caring daughter, sister, and friend. All of us who know her, love her very much! If anyone has any information, please contact the number in the picture or this page. Please share and pray for her and her family! Thank you.”

At this point, the family is hoping that social media can help spread her photo further. She is described as being 5-foot-6-inch tall and weighing 160 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.

“The more people who see her photo, the better,” said Chris. “No one really knows what may have happened to her. And if the right person sees it and recognizes her, we could get her home safely. We will find her. Our family has faith in that.”
