$13,000 Found, Returned, By Man In Tennessee

What would you do if you found $13,000 in a trash can outside of a gas station? If you’re Kenneth Allen, you’d bring it to the Clarksville Police Department so that it could be returned to the rightful owner.

ABC reports that Allen picked up a paper bag that was sitting on top of a trashcan outside of a convenience store in Tennessee. Allen found $12,746.73 in the bag, as well as a bottle of cologne.

Allen said:

“It never crossed my mind to take it, because that’s not the right thing to do. I knew I had to return it. Someone might have needed that for something really important.”

Police were able to use a surveillance video to identify the owner of the money. The surveillance footage shows a 51-year-old man stopping at the trash can to throw out an ice cream sandwich wrapper. The man leaves the paper bag on top of the garbage can and walks away. According to the Slideshow, the bag sat on top of the garbage can for about 45 minutes.

Police did not release the name of the 51-year-old man but said that the stranger had called Allen to thank him for returning his money.

According to the police, the 51-year-old man had recently been released from the hospital.

Allen said:

When he called, I asked, ‘Dude, why did you have so much money? He didn’t really explain that, but he did say he was very grateful to have it back, and was glad we were the ones who found it…. If anyone else had found this money, they’d have thrown one heck of a party. We were meant to find it.”

What would you do if you found $13000?
